I ask this because platform jumping is so frustrating, in this game. If you don't time the jump perfectly, you start over. Timing jumps is all well and good in 2D games, but not in 3D. It's too hard to judge some of them.

I didn't think it was that hard, especially after having played every Metroid game. If you can master the dash-jump, you can get almost anywhere with the greatest of Ys....er, ahem, the greatest of ease, I mean.

Just go play some Metroid Zero Mission, & try to do some of the ridiculous combos moves they have you do to get certain missile packs, that I ended up cheating on

Metroid is easier to jump with, because it's easier to judge jumps in 2D. Super Metroid is like the greatest game of all time.
I didn't know there was a dash jump. I probably should have read the manual.

I don't care what anyone says. Ys VI is a 2d game. The camera never moves, at least not in any way that significantly affects gameplay. So, jumping is every bit as easy.
Dash jump:
First perform a dash attack (tap and release forward, and then the attack button). Immediately after executing the dash-attack, hit the jump button. For maximum distance coverage, also press forward once again, and hold.

What the hell? Yes it is a 3D game. When the damn camera pans out, and it's harder to get a feel for where the landing spot is. That would make it a 3D game.

Oh come on. The camera pans out very few times in the game, and never when it'll affect platform jumping. The only place where it might even be a slightly conceivable obstacle is in the ruined city, in the penultimate room.

There were a few parts where I'd try to jump at something, and would completely miss because of how the camera panned out so far.

In Metroid Zero Mission you only jump in 2 directions, left and right. In this game you can jump in any direction. It's easy to miss a jump because you misjudge the direction. I found some parts of the game almost impossible to pass using the D-pad. As for Metroid Zero Mission, there is just a little bit of a learning curve, it's very easy to master it after a while. In Ys VI I don't think it's possible to get any better at judging direction.
