The PSP has always been $250 in my area. Hasn't gone up or down. Maybe I'll buy a used one down the road. As for Mega Man on the DS, I wish that new Mega Man ZX was a Metroid styled MM ganem that would rock! And here's hoping to another Castleroid to come out for DS, they're great!

oh yeah, i remember recently reading once again on IGN (they reitterated it) that Metroid Dread (the 2D metroid for DS) is still very possible, at the least. I'd say wait for E3. and the next castlevania for DS has actualy been announced (its already in my IGN wishlist! ^o^), and im sure it'll be at E3. but im kinda hoping the next one will do something more like Dracula X (PCE), so that they dont overdo it on the SotN formula. they should realy mix it up, that'd be cool. and, like i said in another thread, i realy do hope ZX takes those extra steps. inticreates pulled it off well with the Zero series, taking the right steps, so im sure they'll do it again with ZX. and the PSP's retail price was and always has been officially $299.99 + tax (15%) in Canadian dollars. that would come to close to $400. Most people got games and memory sticks and crap too, so as u can see there are quite a few people in Canada ready to pay over $500 for any system with sony's name on it (i mean, if they had released the PSX in NA, i actualy beleive it would have sold better than it did in Japan!). If you saw the system it's self for around 400 without tax, i'd say they were realy ripping ppl off. and yeah, true stuff about walmart (btw, i wasnt saying that the price u gave would have been from walmart, i was just using it as an example... IF thats what you thought). I usualy go where the preorder goodies are, or if i need to guarentee that i get my copy. ive had troubles with ebgames so i try to avoid that. if its like a nintendo game or something that doesnt have preorder bonuses, walmart usualy has it for sure, and its cheaper, even if it is a few pennies.. i mean, penny saved = penny earned, right?

lol... i still havent heard of a PSP game having good loading times... ive actualy heard of one PSP game that had loading screens for it's loading screens! i guess, all thats cought my attention for this version is the minigames. music can be heard from the soundtrack and i dont realy care for how much closer it is to the PC version than the PS2 version was.

I bought this game on release day and was so excited. I upgraded my 1.5 firmware psp to 2.5 just to play this game. It was so worth it. Yes it is better than the ps2 version and this is as close to the pc as we are going to get in the states and europe. The load times do blow, but it's not that bad, and also there are parts the game gets really framey. I mean it runs less that 30 fps it seems. There are a lot of parts where it runs really smooth but that's with almost no sprites on the screen. The game is still very fun to play and the frame rate drop doesn't effect the gameplay to much. I have both this and the ps2 and this wins hands down. I am not very far yet so I can't say what extras there are, but man this is very sweet on the psp.

we'd get even closer to the PC version if nightwolve would release his translation for it... personaly, i dont think the PSP game is that extra step closer to the PC version than the PS2 game was. you can easily get the original voice overs and cinematics from the PC game in the US PS2 version, all thats left is the 2D sprites, which i can honestly live with or without. framerate problems is a thing i realy hate, and coupled with this: So yeah, Napishtim is a great game, but Konami damn near ruined it with the game's long, long, remarkably long load time. And not just long -- frequent, too. Like, whenever you step onto a new screen frequent. Imagine this: you have just wandered off the side of a screen. The screen goes black for 15 seconds while the game loads the next screen. Once the area loads, you spend five seconds walking across it. Then, once you reach the edge, the screen goes black for another 15 seconds while the game loads the next area. That's a 30 second wait to walk for five seconds! Sure, not all areas take such a short time to walk across, but there are more of those tiny, one screen areas than you'd think. And regardless of the area size, having to wait approximately 10-20 seconds whenever you move to a new screen is a joke. i can understand why the reviewer might have regreted hating his PS2 version. personaly, if i were playing this on the PSP, im pretty sure that i would crack the system in half without much delay. when it comes to games, computers, anything technical, my patience isnt all that strong.

The load times aren't really as bad as he makes it out to be. Also I don't remember the PC version ever having "voice overs" that was just for the ps2.

realy? i thought that the PC version had japanese voice overs... oh well. anyways, i personaly liked it with the japanese voice overs in the PS2 version. still, the anime cutscenes and original music is intact (even if you have to enter a code first), so i was fine with the PS2 version.
and... i dont realy like having loading in my games ever... at any time and of any length.

Well I don't think the PC version is overrated, I think it has to do with people wanting the english versions to be as close as possible to the original. Me...I have no problem playing the ps2 or psp versions. I also own the PC version and you're right it's nothing special but it's still the best version out there.

I like in that Game Spy review, one of the sub headings is "The Ideal Utopia" which is the opening line in Ys 1 & 2 for Turbo "Ys....the ideal utopia"

Just completed the PSP version of Ys 6. (Finished the PS2 version a year ago, and the Ys sleeper in me couldn't pass up buying it again).
They TOTALLY ruined it. Besides the RIDICULOUS load times (and you WILL get sick of seeing Now Loading... Now Loading... Now Loading again and again), they also annihilated the frame rate. The game WILL turn into a complete slide-show in just about every large and/or enemy packed room. It becomes so bad, that it negatively affects controls.
Oh, and despite the severe performance downgrades over the already dissapointing PS2 version, they also further uglified the game.
Yep. PSP version both runs and looks a helluva lot worse than the PS2 game, which was already a significant downgrade in both categories from the 2003 (was it?) PC original.
Way to go Konami. Thumbs down.
Hell, even the bonus content (the Rhedan Trials, which replace the nasty Alma Trials from the PS2 game) sucks ass.
The only real perks? It's portable (though occasionally unplayable). And they restored the original PC sprite graphics. (Oh, and maintained the hi-rez portrait art). PS2 version added in hideous 3D models, hideous pre-rendered FMVs (though the anime scenes were unlockable), and included only low-rez portrait art. *sighs*

I don't think this game is suited for the PSP. I doubt it'd even be POSSIBLE to run this game smoothly on a PSP. Depends on your PC. But I honestly think the PS2 port was rather well done. Sure, the framerate was overall pretty low, and the loading times were ridiculous sometimes (even with HD Loader!). I doubt they used different (higher res) artwork. The PSP runs at a lower resolution than the PS2, doesn't it?

Yeah, the PSP has a lower native resolution, of course, but the portrait art in the PS2 game was pixelated and awful. I think they merely went back to using the uncompromised art assets from the PC version. No clue why they downgraded the portrait art for the PS2 game. Couldn't possibly have been a disc-space issue!
And regarding Ys VI PC. Hell, I'm fairly confident that a 2003 PC could run Ys VI with better graphics and framerate than a PS2 can run its version! ;p
Edit - And I disagree regarding the PSP's capabilities. Konami just made two really low budget ports. Hell, I think the ports were farmed out to some Chinese studios anywhere. Konami's version of Square-Enix's TOSE port-factory studio, as it were. Ys6 in no way pushed the PS2, yet that system choked under the game. The PSP version fared similarly (though worse). Portable Ys. It's a combination that almost cannot go wrong. Bah.

Yeah, the PSP has a lower native resolution, of course, but the portrait art in the PS2 game was pixelated and awful. I think they merely went back to using the uncompromised art assets from the PC version. I'd agree that this is probably the case. I'm playing the PS2 version for the first time now, and it's stunning how bad the art looks compared to the PSP version. On the upside, the menus are actually functional, because I can see what I'm doing. As much as I didn't like them at first, I think the polygonal characters are an improvement after all. I really like the fact that you can see what Adol has equipped, which I'm pretty sure wasn't in the PC version's sprites and I know it wasn't in the PSP one. I hear this carried over to OiF, but I haven't played it yet. Also, I agree about the quality of the port having to do less with the PSP and more with the porting job. I think Gurumin will be the real test, considering that as far as I know, Falcom's doing it in-house. Here's hoping for less loading and better performance.
