I recently bought Ys VI, standard edition, and installed it. But I have a really stange error I can't figure out. The games runs after install fine; however, if I try and open the config file nothing opens and in the task manager the config.exe is eating up all my CPU. It has obvisously hanged but just to make sure I let it run for a good 10 minutes. Nothing. The same things happens before and after I install the most recent patch from the falcom page. The game plays fine it is really annoying since the resolution is set so low and I have no way to redefine my keys.
I have Ys Eternal, Ys Origin, Ys Felghana, Ledgend of Heroes VI SC, and Xanadu all installed as well but none of their config files give me any problems. I'm running Win XP SP2 on a Core Duo 6600 and 8800 GTS.
Any help anyone could give me would be very much appreciated.
Thanks,

You can edit the ini file directly, it is located here:
C:\Documents and Settings\USER NAME\Application Data\Falcom\YS6_WIN\

I tried that already, but the thing is, there is no .ini file there until the config.exe file runs successfully the first time and creates it.
Could someone post the contents of the .ini file so I could manually create one and then edit the flags myself?
thanks,

I finally got it working. I installed the game on my work notebook then copied the two .ini files and moved them into the correct directory on my desktop.
Then I edited the designated device, key assignments and resolution, etc. manually and everything is working great.
Just a note incase anyone else is interested. Under the config menu the max setting for resolution was capped at 1024x768, but I tried manually setting the resolution in the .ini file to 1600x1200 since that is my native resolution and it works flawlessly. Don't know if anyone else knows about this but it is pretty since I don't imagine there are a whole lot of people out there running displays with resolutions higher than 1024/768.

I also have this problem. The only other computer in my home is my sister's and she won't let me install the game . Is there anyone that can upload the ini files?

Since they're text, you could just post the contents here. Fine by me. I just hate playing in the minimum resolution -_-.

I'm having the same problem as daba. The game works fine on my laptop, but it has issues on my desktop computer.
Installing and running the unpatched ys6_win.exe went smooth, but when I tried to run the config, it does nothing and eats up my CPU resources.
I also copied the two .ini files from my laptop to my desktop, but the game seems to ignore settings in the files and just starts with 640x480 resolution. Maybe the config file is not compatible with the unpatched version of Ys6.
I can't even run the ys6_1201.exe patch on my desktop. It does nothing and eats up my CPU.
Any ideas?

The problem is a simple one. Make sure your regional options are set to japanese. The same thing happens to me when im in english regional options setting. The config should open fine when in jap settings.

Nope. That didn't do it. And the game always worked fine with "United States (English)" under Regional Options for my laptop.
I forgot to mention that I was running Microsoft AppLocale along side of my test, because without it, the program would exit upon starting.

This .ini file is called "config.ini" ?

Nope.
ys6_win.ini
There's a "config.ini" too though. Not sure if you have it.

Thanks FM-77...
But doesn't work... >__<
Someone already tested all solutions to fix this ? Because I don't want to format and install SP1... No way to SP2 ?

You don't need to reinstall Windows to get SP1/SP2. Just download the patch and run it. www.softwarepatch.com/windows/xpsp2.htmlYou don't need to get SP1 first. Getting SP2 is a very good thing, but I don't think it will solve your problem.

Looks like FALCOM released a patch to work with WinXP x64 (64-bit). www.falcom.co.jp/ys6/support/s_prg.htmlClick Download in the green box -- this is version 1.3.0.5 for the Popular Edition. Cheers.

Man that's strange. Why do that? Does anybody use XP x64? That kernel is really poor and practically unsupported.
