Interesting, that's some info I didn't know! See, that's what I want. Each creature, mineral, vegetable, etc. in Ys, explained!

I don't recall seeing any images of Feena and Reah in their youth during the Ys 2 Complete opening... in fact, the only images from 700 years ago that I recall being in that opening at all were some etchings, and a black-and-white scene of white birds flying over Esteria! -Tom Just rewatched it. It says 700 years ago, and right before it shows Ys lifting off into the sky it shows Feena and Reah praying with the black pearl in between them. At first glance they do seem a bit 'shorter'/ younger, but then it shows a close up of one of their faces, and the face looks a bit more mature. Either way, I just don't like the new art for Feena and Reah, it is just my personal preference. If you like it I'm not going to hate you for it or anything.

Either that or they leave their body and their spirit "go to heaven." Alma did that in Ys VI.

While I definitely like the old Feena and Reah better, I can't say I don't like all of the new art. Mmmmmm, Epona... Now if only she wasn't named after a horse deity (or just a horse for people whose only knowledge of mythology comes from video games ) That reminds me, since we've gotten two other characters named for previously seen places and she seems to be associated with them, have we seen this name in the series before and I've forgotten about it?

If you are talking about Epona, then yeah, she's Link's horse in Zelda.

Epona is the worst one so far, I'd say. She looks like an old lady and she also looks very masculine, which I guess isn't the point. She also has that creepy skin like all the other characters. I don't know what it is, but every time I see them, I almost shiver! There's something about them, but I can't put my finger on what. Oh! Now I know why I don't like Epona - she looks like an old and nasty teacher (or a hag) I had when I was a kid (like, when I was seven). I hated her!!

If you are talking about Epona, then yeah, she's Link's horse in Zelda. I know, hence the video game reference. I also know it as the name of a hovertank in Battletech but mostly as a Celtic goddess. What I was wondering was if we've seen that name in Ys before. Her companions are both named for places we've been to (or more likely, the places are named for the people) but I don't recall seeing any place called Epona before. If we have, where is it and how did I forget? If not, is it significant or am I just making a big deal out of nothing as a way of passing the time until the 21st? That makes me wonder, given that these people seem to be antagonists does anyone else find it downright odd that Toal and Kishgal are both considered holy sites during Adol's time?

Isn't Epona the name of the horse from the legend of zelda series? Oh well, I guess the name doesn't matter...

Now, I don't know a thing about Zelda, as I have never played it (yes, yes, I can hear the screams now, "Heresy!!!!"). But it seeems to be confirmed out of the mouths of three witnesses...

I am more disappointed with the names than the illustrations. They're, in a word, Fukt. I think I've always had a bias against the anime style, a bit pedaphilic and homogenous at times. But that is part of the Ys series and as far as that goes, I think the illustrations for Origin are actually pretty cool. Although dang...The official illustrations of Feena and Lair are up for download as this week's YsO wallpaper. They look pretty pissed off in the image. I missed these, are they still up on falcom's site somewhere? I couldn't find them.

The Japanese aren't the best at romanizations. Notice such wonders as Fukt (which technically could be correct...) and Esterior. Some of the names sound a bit better in Japanese (Syon/Shion for example) but for the most part, they're only so-so. I'm not going to complain about Toal and Kishgal though, if only because it means we'll probably be getting some more backstory on Ys and how it relates to everything else we've seen. Now if only they could do something to connect V to the rest of the series beyond just Terra showing up in VI. www.falcom.com/yso/download/wp06/wp14_l.jpgAll the old wallpapers are still there, just not linked directly.

I was talking about Yunica. The face is completely round, like a ball. Looks crazy.

I think my main problem is that, while the illustrator goes into great detail over the clothes and such of the characters, there's relative inattention paid to the humans themselves. This wasn't as much of a problem is Felghana and Napishtim because there was a greater saturation of clothing and such. Here, the characters are dressed a little more plainly so the earlier flaws show more. Not bad art, but sorta bland in a way.
