Do you play as him before he becomes Dark Fact or do you play as his predessor, Priest Fact?

You play as Hugo Fact and another Fact (is there a spoiler tag?) but just not Dark. I believe Dark Fact is from Adol's time which is the future.

Dark Fact is 700 years after..We don't know "whose Fact" is it, it could be one of these "two facts" living forever, but probably not  |

Exatly. Hugo bears a striking resemblance to some images of Dark Fact, but given his role in Origin, I don't think it's him. Besides, that "look" is obviously hereditary.
Unless DF's past is revealed in another Ys game (doubtful, since it seems the Fact/Dahm plot is over and done with...), we may never know :s

one key thing to remember is that dark fact is grateful that he is killed. As if he was the undead not by choice. So there had to be some good sized time period.

In Ys 1, Dark Fact's title is "Ruined Ys Priest"
So... yeah, whatever.

His name was Keith Fact, so, he'd be a descendant of one of the Fact's.

I actually never played either of the Ys IV games, believe it or not... though both are games I very muchly INTEND to play in the near-ish future... -Tom Just wait 'til you play the Dawn of Ys, you're gonna be in Ys heaven! That game is so amazing, between that and Oath, I can't decide which is my favorite. |

It would have been even MORE amazing if you could skip dialogue sequences or at least turn off the voices to read subs (not that they had subtitles). :P I never really got past the beginning through cuz Dogi just wouldn't shut up. |
