Hello, So got the game, excited to play it but the movies will not show up. Right when i start the game I can hear the girl say "falcom" but nothing shows. Then I can start new game, load etc.. choose the character and then I can hear all the audio for a movie but nothing shows... whats the deal? Can anyone help me? I have tried all kinds of different settings for video but have an idea that it has something to do with codecs or something. I have tried applocal and tried not using it and just changing my desktop to japanese but it still does not work. Any help is appriciated

Well not being able to play movies doesn't sound like a language issue, that's for sure. The movie files (which are in your YSO_WIN folder in the 'release' subdirectory if you want to try them outside the game) are just regular avi files with no fancy codecs in them so I doubt it's that... have you tried updating Media Player? Or failing that, try running them outside the game and see if they work then. They work fine here (albeit a bit slow) but you're not the first person I've seen who's had issues running video files in a Falcom game.

Strange... I can view the videos in media player but there is no sound.. the exact opposite of what happens when I run the game... I have never had a problem like this with falcom games and have played allot of them on my pc.
When I fire up felghana everything works fine.. I will try updating media player as I have not done this yet

Well, I can explain why you can see the video but not hear sound when you play the files using media player. It's because the video and audio streams are separated into 2 different files.

You might want to try different options in the Ys Origin Setup program. I believe this forum has the translated screens. A quick skim of the manual doesn't seem to show anything about no graphics but sound playing during movies and stuff but there's all this stuff about updating drivers, DirectX version (Origin uses 9.0c) and playing in full screen.

I have the same problem. On my other PC where I installed XP in Japanese, all is working perfectly though. o that's a unicode problem, or I have different codecs installed on each of my PCs...

ok, i have treid all kinds of stuff now and still cant get it to work.. What I have NOT tried is downloading new codecs because I hate doing that unless I have to Anyone know exactly what codecs these movies use? I could try and get the newest versions... but it still baffels me becuase I can watch the videos in winamp and media player no problem, they look stuning arghhh.. damn it, I really want to play this... I wonder if I should just try installing it on my other os which I never use anymore because it became really unstable. It was my "test" os where I test lots of different programs on. It has a ton of codecs on it though, which slows down things it seems.. I guess that is my next option if no one else has any ideas. Thanks for all your imput!

It shouldn't be a codec issue though, the files are showing up as simple MPEG video here, no DivX XviD etc to mess around with - and particularly seen as they play fine outside the game...
On the other hand, it's just the movies, right? After the start there aren't any more until near the end, so you could just leave it running until it gets past them then carry on playing right? If you've seen them elsewhere. Sucks that's the best I can come up with, but :/ Not much in terms of resources to go on here, especially with the manual being in Japanese and all.

Well if you want to give it a shot anyways. www.cccp-project.net/ probably the only codec(filter) pack you'll ever really need/want. EVER.

I have the exact same problem with my desktop computer, yet it works fine on my laptop. I believe I get the same behavior with Felghana, as well. It very well may be a codec issue, as has been suggested.

I think it´s not a codec issue...and about Doomer 88's problem, it is the same as mine!He can´t play the game, because not only the videos of the game aren't showing up, the game itself is not showing up rs What I'm trying to say is that there is only audio when the prologue should appears and then when he starts the game and chooses his character, he can only hear the sound when someone is speaking in french, again...that´s the same problem as mine..I really don´t think it is a codec issue... please, heeeeeeelp us lol

I prefer the Gordian Knot Codec Pack, which you can get in the downloads section of www.doom9.net . However, if you plan on watching any newer MKV files, the Gordian Knot Codec Pack won't cut it for you. I just find that the CCCP pack sometimes conflicts with pre-installed codecs, whereas the Gordian Knot pack doesn't. -Tom instead of getting codecs, just get KM player...It plays everything...

The other reason(high posibility) is that your video driver is out of date and needed to be updated...that's what i did for my friend's comp and voila!.the movie plays and is with sound...
