Is that all the shipping is? I'd heard people on this board cursing their expensive shipping methods for one lousy CD.

I'm not gonna pay a single DIME to the post office. If the CD itself is free, then it should be downloadable also. Check Maxis' way with their official Sims2Pack files. You need to have an original serial number for The Sims 2 and sometimes an expansion bound to your account - or else no download. Falcom could've done the same.

The reason they didn't is that, quite simply, they haven't the bandwidth. Falcom isn't as large a company as you're giving them credit for, they don't have the bandwidth to go through several thousand downloads of a ~150 MB expansion pack.

They don't NEED the bandwidth. Who tells them to put the file on their own server? They can use FileFront, FilePlanet, etc. There are hundreds of options... In the big World Wide Web you'll find anything - if you WANT.

I agree. Making a CD was an incredibly stupid idea. A lot more expensive too. Actually mailing those things out takes time and money, not to mention actually printing them first. Bandwidth is NOT expensive and people can download large files - they do not have dial-up, not in Japan.
The best solution though, would (obviously) to include all that junk in the initial release. This stuff is not grand like people are trying to make it out to be. Useless, simple features that wouldn't take many hours to implement. Instead, they chose to release an unfinished beta version of the game.
Of course, this is all just part of their big master plan. Release a minor addition several months after the release, making fans think they have a whole new game and play the same thing over and over again. Problem solved, they don't need to make any new games. Instead, they finally release the finished product, which people will buy. Selling the same old product in a new package many times over is not something Falcom's unfamiliar with (Ys Eternal, Eternal VE, Ys Complete, etc).

I have to say that this is the most interesting thing I've heard yet concerning Falcom. But still, I have to agree with you whole heartedly - there had to be a better way to do this, and you're right there is no dial-up in Japan. Its merchandising that they're trying to pull - we buy what we thought was complete, and they come out with an expansion. They treat the game like its an MMORPG where you require expansion packs to keep the flavor going. I honestly think they could have made it a TORRENT if they were worried about bandwidth.

It never ceases to amaze me how people seem to think they're actually entitled in some way to play games. Lack of common sense? Or perhaps simply lack of a sense of commerce?

back to deuces quote I think that is a younger generation thing... Too much of handing the kids everything they want. As if by some birthright they are entitled to anything they want.... seems a lack of a sense of commerce can spon from that... in which case.... i would like to add.... Get a real job.... laugh out loud! that is a great awaking to the spoilage and lack of sence.... For the decent people that actually work or cant find or get a job... sorry... Be sparing with the punctuation there, man. You only need one period to end a sentence! But you're right, to a degree. Going out into the "real world" and working (as well as having living expenses) does help you get a better perspective on things. At least, for most people it does. Some just don't have the sense to learn. Yes, let's piss off the industries, waste their countless amounts of yen, time and hard work so we can enjoy ourselves. monkeys MONKEYS HELLO?!?! Edit: Monkeys?!?! The filters are now punishing us for using little ascii faces. So yes... monkeys!!

I'm not gonna pay a single DIME to the post office. It's 5 bucks. Canadian. SERIOUSLY. Why even bother complaining? There's torrents out there, go USE them instead of complaining.

The quickest way to teach a child the value of money is to borrow from him. Haha! Good point. They start to get a new perspective on it when it's going away from them instead of to them... ....And mjmmx? Your LG plugs in every post. Double-Yew-Tee-Eff, dude.

although i will admit your company is probally not happy with me for not using their card. for some reason they called earlier today asking me to take advantage of the 5% on all charges offer. they were definately friendly enough.... anyway. I never use my Discover card either. Shame on you!! Looking forward to trying out that extras CD tomorrow... but now I have so many others to work on too! Too much Ys (is there such a thing?), too little time.

LG was previously known as Goldstar and they made a 3DO model among other video game related things. Very cool stuff, actually.

Now that my move is complete...Well, I ordered it anyway. And I found a torrent. I've got the Disks for Ys: Oath and Origin, I've had them since I've heard about their existance. All that's left is to get my camera out of storage in Florida (now that I'm in Georgia, that's difficult!) And I can take pictures of all of these things.
Even so, I still say that paying for a disk you could fit in an ENVELOPE and ship for free is dumb. Paying for a disk that is free anyway is also dumb. I dislike that move from Falcom, but I can't complain due to how cheap it was anyway.
At least it kicks some warezkids in the pants.

You expected Falcom to pay for shipping? Postage is free.
