Okay, so I'm buying a macbook for college... and have been using a windows-based pc for my entire life up to this point basically my question is this - will I be able to play these games on my new toy? or do macs have a serious issue with Ys games?

Well, you should keep in mind that Macs cannot run Windows-only applications. If the system requirements for something don't indicate that it works on a Mac, then you can safely assume that it won't. Most everyday applications are either Mac-compatible, or there are Mac programs by a different name that can do the same thing, but many games are still Windows-only. YsF and YsO are both Windows-only. However, you can use Boot Camp ( www.apple.com/macosx/bootcamp/) to run Windows on a Mac and thus use Windows applications. How well you'll be able to run the Ys games depends on exactly what model you're getting; I have a 15" Mac Book Pro that's a bit over a year old, and they work perfectly.
