I will be staffing the following conventions, if anyone is going to let me know, so we can at least say hi.
Zenkaikon (Small convention for Philadelphia area)
MangaNext (Dedicated more to manga then anime, type of convention)
Anime USA (This will be my first time ever going to this convention, so I don't really know what it is like...I just know they had Back-On as the musical guest last year, and I really wanted to go.)
I tend to keep myself busy when I staff, I don't ask for any breaks, and really only take them when some one tells me to. So to really get a hold of me, I would have to plan for it, so like I said, let me know.
As for the whole what convention to go to thing. I like Anime Conventions, because I like the type of gamers I get at anime conventions, vs. gamer conventions. With Anime Conventions, the emphasis isn't on games, and I just feel like there is more to do, accompanied by games. I really like Anime and Manga too, so having both in one boat is great for me. I don't even watch too many animes..I watched about a total of 6 shows last year. Not to mention, Anime conventions are a amazing place to just people watch. There is a lot of energy, and a lot of pep, and it is just a lot of fun watching main lobbies bustling about with people, all interested in generally the same thing you are.
As for gamer conventions, I can't say I have really been to one. I've attended Too Many Games, a small Pennsylvania convention twice, and that is just all dealers; however, all the dealers are gamers too. So it is just a in person market thread, going around, talking about the games they have for sale, and then just wondering off into other points of discussion, very laid back and cool. Not to mention, there are mainly classic games, so you get a of older laid back guys, not some over aggressive teenagers. However, other conventions, like PAX, I don't expect to be like this at all. I can't help but just picture about 20% being the "Pro-Gamer" types, and those kats just erk me.
All I have to say. I haven't been to a "Gamer" convention, but I just don't see the real pull. Maybe to chat with guys from companies, and say thanks, but I know they are only a spokes man for the company, and usually aren't apart of the creation of the game, per-say. There are exceptions, but yeah.
