Why is the game set up like this?
Stupid differences between Ys Eternal and Ys Eternal 2.
1.) Max level is level 10 in Ys eternal which you get before your even half way through the game while Ys eternal 2 the max level is 50 and you don't reach that until right before you fight Darm
2.) Why can you not use Herbs or other healing items during boss fights when you have them equipped in Ys eternal, but in Ys eternal II your able to? This makes the bosses of Ys Eternal II very simple and basic compared to the first one... Honestly I didn't even know you could until I did it by accident... I played through Ys eternal II on hard without ever using a healing item in a boss fight like Ys eternal and found them to be equally hard and on par with Ys eternall... But now knowing this, that makes the bosses in 2 total push overs.

Well, they are remakes, you know. In Ys, you couldn't use items in boss battles, in YsII, you could. YsI had only 10 levels, YsII had lots of them. Please, do NOT call the Ys book I&II for the "real" Ys games, because those are remakes! They are from 1990. The original Ys is from 1987 and YsII is from 1988. Ys eternal I and II is remakes of the original games. Sort of.

Ys book 1&2 had balanced levels because they were made to be 1 game. Ys Eternal are remakes like Seldane said, the changes in Ys 2 are probably meant to be improvements over Ys 1.

Why would they even convieve as such a bad idea for Ys Complete... I can understand how Ys 1 and 2 eternal were a couple years apart... But when they made Ys Complete and put them together they should have really looked to Ys Book 1&2 for their inspiration, to make both games more play out like 1 game. Ys Eternal's level up system seems so damn sloppy.. And Ys eternal II should not allow you to use herbs in battles considering the bosses aren't any harder then Ys Eternal's bosses.

Maybe it would require too much tweaking if they adjusted the leveling to balance out over 2 games. Let's not forget there are 4 difficulty levels, and also there is no way to continue Ys 2 with your current level.
BTW max level in Ys 2 is 55 not 50.

Yes. I found that quite strange that the max HP in Ys 2 complete is 256HP, aside from the usual 255HP which is the max in most other Ys/RPG games.

The reason 255 is the limit in alot of games is because of hex translation. The highest 2 digit value FF=255. Just as FFFF-65535, which used to be a common max in older games. 256 is old though, I thought it was a glitch at first.

Yeah i noticed that as well, i remember the max tons of goods you can get from sid meir's pirates! was 255, and the max items you can carry in final fantasy 3(vi in japan) is 255, that number comes up a lot.
