Heyo, folks. Got a bit of a mystery on my hands here. Traversing the net, I managed to come across a particular oddity that's caught my interest for a while now. Two songs, "Darm Tower" and "Dark Fact," that claim to come from a game by the name of "Ys Gaiden." Looking about, the only two instances of Ys Gaiden ever mentioned on Google come from a random website and from the HCG:101 article on Ys. There, it's said to be a game where parts are played in the character of Dogi. My question to you, fellow denizens, is where the Hell can I get more information? And, for that matter, where's the rest of the music? I uploaded the songs I have here in hopes of piquing everyone's interest, and perhaps sharing the love a little. Here's to us managing to figure this'un out.

Whow, I know nothing about that. Dogi related...that sounds like one of those mobile games. Can anyone back this up? Seldane? \o'

Its name isn't Ys Gaiden at all. It's a cellphone game.

I would really like to hear more of the music. That Darm Tower track rules. And thanks Vert!

Aha, so this is BS then... This is PC-8800 music. I E NOT from that cellphone Dogi game. Not Ys songs. Edit: I've been researching this further and there's no such thing as Ys Gaiden, or "イース外伝". The "random website" that you find when you search for Ys Gaiden mentions one of the Ys gaiden novels and claims it to be a game. Which is incorrect, of course. I've visited this website before, and I believe they stated there would be a new 200 episode Ys anime coming out (from Konami). Not a reliable source, in other words. Obviously, these songs are just random PC-8800 songs, probably labeled in this way to cause confusion such as this. What intrigues me the most is that the comment field mentions Kuno's ancient (and since long discontinued) Ys website... I've waybacked it to check things out, and there's no mention of these songs on there, so I guess someone just put that link in there for some crazy reason. She couldn't possibly have done it herself. Again, definitely not Ys music, but still interesting. Am I the only PC-8800 nut here? I'm not familiar with this music personally, it would be interesting to find out what it came from. It does sound like Ys music (but then again, a lot of PC-8800 music does). I assume you got this from the ole DC hub.

Yeah, I nabbed this way back in the day from VGMC. Back before I was even an Op. It confused the Hell out of me back then and it still confuses me now. DarkFact might have an idea, but I haven't asked him. I thought there was the possibility this wasn't really from an Ys game, but the sound quality was fairly authentic for the period... however, I got those two songs in a folder full of other Ys crap. And I mean crap in the most literal way. We're talking random Kazaa/Napster picks here, ones where "Noble District of Toal" is translated to just plain "Holy."

I mentioned this to him yesterday and he didn't seem to know anything about it. It's got to be from some other random game. I remember the Kazaa crap days, people mislabeled a lot of things, primarily to cause confusion, of course. I actually found some nice new bands that way (mislabeled songs).

I appologize for the thread-necromancy, but, this is the only lead I've found...
I have been looking for those "not Ys Gaiden" songs that came from "The Palace of Solomon" ever since I lost my old computer many years ago. I even downloaded a HUGE list of PC-88 songs in hopes at least one of the songs would be in there, but 4 hours of wading through outstanding music (which was brutal as I couldn't stop to listen, I was on a mission), no luck.
May I ask someone please re-upload the songs for me? Specifically there's one in particular I'm dying to hear again, but I can't recall what it was called. I would be very grateful for the favor.

Once again, I deeply appologize for resurrecting this clearly-no-longer-in-use thread, but this is the only lead I have in finding those songs, and I wish not to give up the hope that some kind soul might still have them, or at least know where they are from so I can search myself.

I don't quite understand what you're looking for? Are you searching for unused Ys I music? There's an Ys album which features them all. But I don't know its name, sorry.

Well, the story is that, many MANY years ago, there was this site called The Palace of Solomon that every so often would upload songs from the games.
One day, there was an update about an "Ys Gaiden" that... trying to recall, basically it was about Adol returning to Minea and being told Dark Fact returned or something... anyway, some songs (I think three) were posted claimed to be from that game.
Due to evidence (or should I say, lack thereof), I believe this might've been a joke, and those songs were taken from a different game, though having the same Ys-style to them.
One of those songs though I found exceptionally awesome, and it's been stuck in my head for years. Ever since I lost the file, I've been trying to find it whenever it crossed my mind to do so (which, obviously's been a while seeing how my last post was almost a year ago, heh).
The reason I resurrected this specific thread though is, I'm absolutely POSITIVE the original-poster is talking about those very songs. I'm so very certain those songs posted contained the one I've been looking for, but, well, as you can see, the link doesn't lead to any file.
I'm hoping that someone knows/remembers what I'm talking about and is either able to solve the mystery of where the song came from, or post/link it to me if possible.

Hmm... I see. I also took the opportunity to re-read this whole thread. But, it certainly sounds interesting. However, unfortunately, as you pointed out, that link is broken, and since those 2 songs werent actually Ys music, it will be hard to find them. ... Hm. But I can't help it, but think of two Ys rip-offs for PC-8801... I wonder if the MUSIC was also ripped off in a way. It would be too much coincidence, but you might check the games mentioned here. SkyeWelse also provided the link for Aiza: New Generation (thanks again! xD), here: adventym.com/aiza/Aiza.zipBe warned though, that might lead you nowhere. @_@ But it's all I can think of. And I also don't know how to use PC-8801 emulators, sorry. xD

Failing that, you could also email Vert and ask if he still has the files you seek. He might not bite!

Fortunately my PC-88 Emulator works just fine, heh (if I can just figure how to remap it or something to use the arrow keys on my laptop keyboard propery so I can enjoy playing this).
Hmm, I'll have to play through this Aiza game a bit more to see if the song shows up (which may be a while, I think it might've been titled "Darm Tower" the song I'm looking for)... I've, got a mildly good feeling about this... though even if it isn't, thank you very much for giving me an awesome new game to try out!
Oh, and I had tried e-mail Vert a year back, but didn't hear anything. Might've been the wrong address or something... anyone else here able to contact him?

To be honest, I recall I sent him a PM for whatever reason sometime last year as well, but he never replied. @_@ Vert was like, the fan music remix dood. He knew everything about them, especially about Ys-related ones. By the way, I would like to try Aiza: New Generation myself. Which emulator are you using? PC88WIN or NekoProject, I presume? Also, no need to thank me, thank SkyeWelse instead. He's the cool guy who found it out and made it available.

To Red Hairdo: The emulator I've got that I've had the least trouble with is Anex86. I, think this is the download version I have: www.zophar.net/pc98/anex86.htmlOh, and if you prefer using the arrow keys like I do, go into Config, Keyboard tab, and assign 8, 4, 6, and 2 in the pad in the lower-right to, well, the obvious, heh. Otherwise, if you've got a laptop like mine, enjoy the endless frusteration of holding down the [Fn] key and repeatedly bumping into enemies and walls 'cause you forget what key is for what. Also, Jump is Z and X is to attack. And sometimes what looks like a dead-end isn't (stupid trees on the left somewhere that took forever to realize I could walk past). Currently I've beaten two bosses, but haven't heard any familar songs yet. There's a LOT of "talk to people to advance stuff," which is a pain 'cause I don't know that much Japanese. I can read Japanese though... except, apparently I never downloaded the Japanese font so people just say "!?$!?$!?" a lot... yeah, that helps... Edit: Oh, uh, make sure to actually, actually set the font in the Config Font tab, eh heh...

Well, after playing Aiza until I got to a point where I couldn't figure out how to beat some boss (some green-haired woman named Fariana who keeps throwing ice stuff around), I went and downloaded the Hoot soundtrack here: snesmusic.org/hoot/v2/?system=PC-98&page=2And... sadly, the song I was looking for, isn't in that game. So... here's hoping either Vert or FM-77 still have those song files I guess. ... Aiza's a pretty fun game though. Knowing me I'll probably continue to play it anyway. Funny how Ruce (Roose? Ruse? Ruusu?) looks so much like Adol, especially when compared to the, I think PC-98 (or X68k, or, one've those) version where he has blue worn under silver armor just like this guy.

Yeah, that guy IS Adol. xD It's really funny. There's also Feena-and-Reah-like like characters and stuff too. xD And I agree, it's a fun game! It's kind of like how Ys V could have been, if it was made to look more like the previous Ys titles!
