I think it would be neat if the got away from the overhead 2dish stuff and just took it right to 3d Adol would Have to Look Anime stye of course, I hate that FFization crap. You could also scroll around him Same fast hack and slash action and great music storys just 3rd person behind veiw. Have Many more Sword styes and techquies for Adol also.

Based on that FFization crap, I assume you have suffered through the CGI graphics on Napishtim? I thought Adol already had enough sword techniques. I guess a couple of more techniques wouldn't hurt, as long as they don't take a minute to execute. As for the new camera angle you suggested, it should not cause disturbances.

I think eventually they will take the series in that direction. I often wonder what an Ys game would be like if it played in the style of Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time or Windwaker. I think it may take a while, but sooner or later it seems possible. I have to say, even though I love the current style, it may start feeling like the same game if they continue with it. I am a huge Final Fantasy fan, and I agree with your comments on it. In my opinion, after FF VII, the characters took on the more realistic look, but went back to the classic look in FF IX. I would much rather have the look of the old school games, as in the super deformed look of the characters in I -VI, and IX but I still enjoy the new games.

I just hope that they keep the super deformed look if they do decide to use an engine similar to OoT and WW, but that's just a minor issue. Using realistic proportions didn't hurt OoT after all. What I'm most concerned about is the gameplay.
I love the Ys VI engine, but as gamemusicfreak stated, it'll get tiresome if they continue to use that. The combat engine shouldn't be too similar to the new Zelda games, or else many gamers would see the Ys series as a Zelda ripoff when it's really not.

A third person Ys game would ruin the whole Ys feeling, I'm sure of it! However, it might have been fun with an Ys game using the Gurumin engine for example, but I am not sure.
The Legend of Heroes VI used the YsVI engine, and you could completely rotate the view 360 degrees in that game. But I am not surprised they didn't use that in Felghana, since they're obviously trying to retain that side scrolling feeling in that game in many parts.

Ok i got this game Two Days Ago and I absolutly LOVE IT! Forget what i said ! Ys needs no upgrade from this Engine. This is such classic Gaming right Here. Ive played Ys 1 and 2 long ago on the Nes but I got bored of those quickly cuz frankly the Gameplay Suxxors But the Story and music are top Notch! Ys 3 is ok i guess never beat it but got pretty far the Genisis version is supeior to the Super nes. Im now in the Ruins Of Kishgal or whatever u call them. I Also Kinda maybe see where this seires is going story wise. Adols Next Adventure? "Far to the west?" Where the Goddesses and Alma's race come from? I just wish theyt would Port the PS2 remakes to english . Oh well I just wish Falcom Would Publish these games themselves Instead of Licencing them out to People like Konami Who have NO RPG exp to speak of! Sorry Im kinda Buzzed Up and ranting Just want to Recant my Upgrade idea hehe

I agree with Seldane that the series should remain in classic form. I wouldnt even mind if they went back to the ram the baddies style gameplay. It seems the next Ys game, whenever a new one does appear, will probably use a brand new engine. It just hard to decifer what that new engine will encompass. It might be another 2 years till a new game in the series arises. I'm sure hoping a port of Oath in Felghana comes out next year.

Personally, I like the camera angles they use right now - especially Felghana's since it zoomed out more often that Napishtim. I like the faw away views where you can see a lot on the screen.
Felghana's dungeon designs were pretty good, but I still think they can do better in that department. They are still a little too linear. I'd like to see more magic/special technique stuff. Some at least somewhat customizable. Doesn't need to be super complicated, just a little more than what they had in the last two games. Maybe something like the magic in Castlevania Circle of the Moon.
I was thinking it would be cool if they added a charging technique you could do in which you could just hold down the attack button and you could just run around and charge into enemies (like in the old Ys games), and you'd automatically swing your sword when you collide with them. They could make it so this technique would work best when fighting enemies that are a lower level than you or something. Also, adding the ability to block would be kinda nice too and would actually give the shields something special about them instead of just raising your defense like armor.
Oh and I'd like to see some more puzzle-like stuff. No, not pushing blocks or anything like that. More like the older Ys games for example - in Darm Tower when you had to break that column, or when you had to wear that item to get passed the statues or even the part in the palace where you had to use the mask to find a secret passage. More stuff like that would be cool.

I'm happy with the series exactly as it is. The only thing I would ask for would be for it to be more story like as some rpgs are. So that the game takes longer and is more in depth.
As it is, I have zero issues with how Ys is currently portrayed and enjoy it just fine.

That idea about a shield blocking feature is not a bad idea.

I like what is going on so far in the series as visualization is concerned I just don't think there is enough depth in the game. It only took me like 16 hours to beat the new one without a guide

i like it the way it is, but sometimes I DO wonder just how Ys would look like if if had the style of Zelda, but keeping the rpg elements which has always been there. Many some traveling around the world, get on a ship an' go visit Esteria, then go to any areas of the eresian continets....But then again I'm probably thinking to vast @_@;;;

I would love to see Adol and Dogi ending up captured and in chains in some massive dungeon infested with monsters, and you have to go in there as Lilia (who has learned to use a sword from Adol of course) and rescue them. Falcom could even arrange Lilia's theme so it sounded all rocked out just for that particular scene. Either that or make Olha put that bow to use as a playable character. I'm not suggesting replacing Adol by any means but I think it would bring a refreshing feature to the series. Maybe this belongs in the "things that would never happen" thread.

Maybe, but I would agree with playing as a female character. I don't know if Lilia fits the part, though. I'm thinking of a person starting with the letter K. But I wonder how other Ys fans would take to that?

I would love to see the Ys games having a different main character (instead of Adol)
-OR-
Take the "Ys" out of the title because.... WHERE'S THE Ys BESIDES THE ONE ON THE ORIGINAL AND (maybe) VI ??
-OR-
an Ys online RPG where you're put in a world consisting of areas where "a legendary red-haired adventurer" happened to pass by. Like making a new Ys game not only to make a "new Ys game" but to also "expand" a MMORPG world. Now that's worth every penny for every release^^
Example: Ys I adds the Esteria areas, quests, items, monsters, etc. Ys III adds the Felghana areas, quests, items, monsters, etc. Ys IV adds the Celceta areas, quests, items, monsters, etc. and so on

Karna? Leeza would be better!

I thought about Karna but then I realized we kind of got to see her in action in the Dawn of Ys. Of course not as a playable character, which would still be cool. Maybe there could be a side story game where we learn Eldeel or Adol taught Leeza how to fight during their moments together. Leeza has to save the day, and teams up with a bunch of other female lead characters from the series.
