Here's something that I never really gave much though to before, but now it's bugging me a little.
Was Darm always trapped on the planet (in the mines) or was he trapped inside the floating Ys? When I first played Ys Book I and II years ago, I always thought he and Dalles were on the floating Ys continent. I thought that Ys rose to protect the rest of the planet from Darm. But I guess it's really the other way around - they rose Ys to protect themselves from Darm who was trapped in the mines on the planet, right?
I used to think that there was just a short distance between the two sides of the wall teleporter thing that Dalles and Darm communicated through. But now I guess the one side was way up in Ys, in the belly of Solomon Shrine and the other was on the planet. But of course, once Ys landed back on the planet at the end of Ys II, the mines and the depths of Ys were connected again.
Also, what exactly caused Ys to lower back to the ground? It seemed like it started going back to earth after Maria was supposedly killed but that never made much sense. What was the whole purpose of killing the decendents of the priests? To free Darm? Or to lift their spell so Ys will lower back to earth? If Darm is trapped on Ys then it would make sense why he would want to get back down to the planet. If he always was stuck on the planet, why would he need Ys to be brought back down?
While I'm at it, I never understood the purpose of Dark Fact. Why did Darm need him? Someone mentioned in another topic that Dark Fact caused Darm's existence according to one of the Ys 4 games. And from what I've come to understand, Dark Fact wants to rule the world and so does Darm. Darm is trapped and really can't do much, but he has Dalles working on solving that problem. Meanwhile, I have no idea what Dark Fact is doing. Building up an army so he can take over the world? Did Dark Fact really want to free Darm? I guess it's all speculation.
Ah, so many different versions of Ys... so confusing. Ys Book I and II never really explained this stuff too well. I've played Ys Eternal but I've been waiting for Ys II Eternal to finish being translated before I play that one. Does Ys II Eternal explain this stuff at all? Does anyone know the answers to some of these questions? Is this stuff obvious? Am I crazy or am I just thinking about Ys too much... or both?
