Hi I'm new ^_^
I saw your link on the Falcom website, because I suddenly had the urge to see if there was anything new for Ys. I haven't really looked up anything about Ys in a long long time since I didn't think the series would survive. But I was so pleasantly surprised when I saw the trailer for Ys: VI. I mean, I nearly died.
I'm really frustrated that the last couple of releases have been in Japanese only, and I can't read Japanese at all! So how do you play?? Also, do you know where I can order the game? Actually...how much is it? I hope it's not ridiculously expensive.
I haven't touched any Ys games in ages, mostly due to the fact that I could never afford any video games, but I have played Book I&II on Turbo Graphix 16 and unfortunately I never got to finish Book II (long story short, the console wasn't mine and neither was the game). I was instantly seduced by the gameplay (yes, there's something so cute about bumping into your enemies), the story and especially the music. It has remained my favorite RPG game of all time.
It's really unfortunate that the last couple of games have only been released in Japan, so I never really knew they existed. Falcom really should release a North American version, in English! People can't appreciate good games if the country that makes them only keeps it for themselves! There's so much *crap* out there, it's hard to come by a game like this one.
Anyway, any info regarding my questions would be appreciated ^_^

Actually...how much is it? I hope it's not ridiculously expensive. LOL it is one hundred american dollars at shop.himeya.comThat is not just for Ys Vi, it is bundled with other games)Ys I-V), and goodies Well, Ys I and II was going to be released in North America for the Playstation 2, but the distributor went bankrupt so those plans are on indefinite hold. It is possible Falcom will just find another distributor... As for Ys VI, it is coming out for Japanese consoles in september, 2004. so expect an english version in early 2005. I assume they will bring it to either the PS2, bc that is what they are bringing out Ys I and II eternal on, or perhaps all of the consoles.(the dates are subject to be moved back, of course) My comp is not strong enough to play VI for the pc, and I do not own a PS2, though Ys VI would be enough to get me to go out and buy one. Afterall, they will probably be under 100 dollars by then.

Hello! It's great to see a new member here! Especially those who like Ys! Falcom's website, eh? I read your post there. Heh.
Yes. It's a shame that the last ones are in Japanese, but that will spare the storyline and go right to the action! Which.... Might not be too fun. But in YsVI, it doesn't really matter. It's still fantastic. Something that YsV wasn't.. There's inofficial transations of YsI and II complete, as well as YsIV for the SNES. So perhaps you should check them out. Notify me if you want to know more. I didn't finish YsII either, mainly because I played a boring NES version. I haven't played the TG16 version yet, sadly. But I will order it shortly. As well as YsIV: The dawn of Ys. Well, again, welcome here, and thank you for registering! (Yes. Thank you. Members are needed here!).

Whoa, $100US, that's like $130 CAD T_T That's like twice the price of a regular PC game here. Damn imports. But thanks anyway. As for the game itself coming out in 2005, that's a looong wait. Maybe if I saved enough money I might just forfeit everything and force myself to learn to read Japanese, if not, I can try and go by ear ^^;; I heard it was a short game, but since I'm pretty slow in getting things accomplished, all the better for me, hehe.

It all depends on how much you are villing to spend. For a "learn japanese" study book, aprox 30$ (300 swedish kr).

The game itself is not hard to play, even though you don't understand anything. It is, however, a short game. Short but fun. It's well worth any fee, it is, after all Ys!

not sure if this was covered elsewhere, but Konami bought the worldwide rights to Ys VI on tuesday, so that means Ys VI will make it to the USA in English on at least one platform(best bet would be the PS2).

I disagree. It would be best on GC. Besides, what makes you so sure it will be translated? I'm still a little sceptic about this..

Anyway, RIGG made a really impressive work for the Ys Eternal games translation on PC, so you can still play those easily... Plus they are not really hard, so give them a chance if possible...

Yes. I know of those translations too. For Ys complete. It's great, although I can easily play through them even though they are in japanese. I know them so well. Well, maybe not too good with Ys II, but I know Ys extremely well..

The Ys games have always been basics, with no major difficulties (maybe just the Ys IV on nec was a little hard sometimes)... Even Ys VI is too easy, but that doesn't bother me, as they are always great games....

I agree. Sure, I had trouble with Ys I when I was younger, but today, I find it very easy. (Might be because of the countless times I have finished it). I had absolutely no trouble at all finishing YsVI. I finished it in five days, and I never really got stuck on anything. Great bosses though, hard, but still possible to beat.

When I said the "best bet is the ps2" I meant, it will most likely come out for the PS2, because that is the system that most people have. Sure the xbox is by microsoft, and would therefore make an smoother transfer from a PC version. EDIT: yes the Ys games are very easy, but they sometimes come with a variable difficulty setting, there is one availible for Ys Vi iirc.

Yes. Ys V and Brandish II both came in "Expert" versions. As well as Ys VI.

It is possible Falcom will just find another distributor... I'm pretty sure the move was blocked by Sony anyway. They seem to have something against old school 2D games, and a small company like Falcom doesn't have anything else to use as leverage.

Except for Ys VI of course, but the Ys eternal story "not-release" doesn't matter that much, since Ys complete has been translated.

Yes, but that proves my point. Konami is publishing Ys VI, and they have alot more they can bargain with. For example they can say, if you don't want us to bring over Ys VI, we'll move Metal Gear Solid 3, or Suikoden 4 to Gamecube.
I guess it's not as big of an issue because of the translation, except for the fact that it cost more than twice as much. But beggers can't be choosers I guess.
