Discuss Ys II DS here. It - unlike Ys V - came out March 20, 2008.
Yep.

What can I say... I need to get it... What about discussing about both Ys I and II DS? EDIT: Oh, only now I saw separated topics were already created. Sorry. It seems the games are very alike Taito's Ys IV and Ys V. As in, low budget game...

Yeah, they look a lot like Ys 4-5 PS2.

Well, they put a lot more work into Ys Strategy, no doubt. The problem there was that the developers were incompetent. But at least they had ambition.

Hmm... For Ys games, they must be made either by Falcom or Hudson. Yeah, I know not everybody will agree. Anyway, I have "managed" to like all the Ys games so far, including PS2's Ys IV and V (IV is not THAT bad, but V... oh god... I could have done better. ) I need to try these two "new" Ys games. I must.

Hudson has only made one Ys game (The Dawn of Ys)... and it was good, but repetitive. And they ruined the plot. So I dunno about that statement.

I liked dawn of Ys better than mask of the sun, cause for a sness game mask could have been a lot better with graphics and controls. After playing that it was obvious why no one sold it to america, dawn of Ys probably due to PCE veterans who played the prequels, but the PCE was only big for so long due to competition with newer systems. Hudson probably messed up the plot but made it up with much more. (Plus the bosses looked like crap on the snes ) I don't really see much point in getting the DS Ys 1&2 cause its coming out for the virtual console for the wii, and people could download eternal practically for free on the computer which is the best version you could get. The game play also looks more like a 3D lagoon and I think FM-77 (sorry if mistaken) said in another forum that the game play and soundtrack sucked, and is easy to boot . Its sold separate so now the games are going to cost more than they're worth like ff1&2 for the psp. 30$ each and has slightly better graphics and stupid cinemas that never happened in the ff games. You could just buy both games for almost 20$ with the new dungeons for the gba and falcom is doing the same thing. Heres an idea translate all your Ys games and sell them all in a bundle. (brandish, dragon slayers too)

Yeah, didn't Alfa System developed the PC Engine/TurboGrafx-CD versions of Ys I-II and Ys III? Really? xD I never heard anything about that. Anyway, it seems you can swing the sword in btoh Ys I/II DS. So I wonder if any "alteration" was made with the fireball magic. Is there voice acting?

No voice acting. And only 8 directional movement, even with the touch screen control mode. This applies to both games.
And Alfa System is sort of an undercover developer. They rarely get proper credit. They made many PCE games, like some Far East of Eden ones, and much more. They are still very active today. I read about a game they made just a few days ago, but I have forgotten which one it was. Probably a DS game.

Tecmo Secret of the Stars, Final Fantasy 4, SaGa 1 and 2 all looked like that. Ys 5 looked way better but it wasnt as good. I prefer mask of the sun for sure. I have both Mask and Dawn and the whole experience was better with mask. Better box, manual, music.

I just finished the first book and I'm waiting for the second in the mail. I really like that it's finally back in portable and true to the TGcd that I played out (my Duo is pretty much dead) Hope the rest of the series comes out as well as the Dragonslayer and Valis set.
If you expect too much from something, you'll always be disappointed as seen above.

What do you mean "back in portable"? Ys 1-2 has never been portable.

Question. . . Were Ys I&II only released in Japan for DS? Also, was it/is it going to be released in the United States as well? The reason I'm asking is because I really don't keep up with whats released on DS since I don't have one and I don't really plan on getting one. Thanks a lot.

Is this game going to be released in English? Or will there be any translation project for it?

Most likely not. The game is just too bad for that. People probably learned a lesson when localizing Ys Strategy and to some extent Ys VI - don't release Ys games in English. It doesn't sell.

People just can't appreciate a good RPG I guess. I know I bought myself a copy of Ys VI...

Typed too fast there, meant for the return. I still find it worthwhile regardless of naysayers negative comments.

I still find it worthwhile regardless of naysayers negative comments. A shitty game can be entertaining, but it's still shit. Look at Ys IV PS2 and Red Hairdo's comments on it, for instance.
