Greeting and salutations, everyone. I'm called "thepeaguy" online. There's not much to add about me, other than the fact that I'm an avid gamer with a shit social life -- not that this bothers me in particular. I wouldn't say I'm a HUGE fan of the Ys series but I have experience with some of their titles. I played YsIII for a bit on my ZNES emulator, which I thought was mediocre. Ark of Nephistim for the PS2 wasn't too bad, but the control mechanics for that game is in desperate need of an overhaul -- it took me numerous attempts to master the Dash Attack or whatever it's called. So far, the Ys series hasn't been endearing for me as such (calm down, lads and ladettes ), though that might change once I've played the Complete editions of Ys I & II. However, I'm having difficulty installing the translation patches, what with my limited pc knowledge and all. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

As for the translation patches... what, exactly, is the trouble you're having? They're fairly straightforward to install - just download, unzip, and run! There's even a text file included in the zip, that tells you step by step what you need to do. If you can explain exactly what issue you're having, we might be able to better assist you. -Tom www.youtube.com/watch?v=PVfroq17kjwAnd I downloaded executable files (.exe), not zipped ones.

What does the error message that pops up say? I can't quite read it in the YouTube video... -Tom "Version 2.0.1.1 is unknown... This patch cannot help you..." Yes, it can. Stupid error message.

Are you sure you have the latest translation patches? The second last patch versions didn't support the latest Ys I-II Complete (two games in one package) release of Falcom. These... "Latest version"? You're kidding, right? *groan*

You need to download the 0107 patch from Falcom's website. I have no idea where it is.

Yeah your Ys version is incompatible (too new), but you can download the old program files and replace them. The file is called Ysc0107.zip or something similiar.

Provide link for that 0107 file! A link? Sure, no problem. (I take it that's what you meant.)

Extract that zip archive and inside you will find folders with the files YS1_WIN.EXE and YS2_WIN.EXE. Just open your Ys 1 and Ys 2 folders respetively, and replace the old EXE files with the ones you got from the ysc0107.zip archive.
Do not use the setup.exe program.

Oh! But did it work to install the English patch after replacing those exe files? The translation patches also remove that CD check.
Do you have the Vista version, by the way?

Yep, and that was the only version available from that Himeya website. I'm currently running it on Win XP. And whatever I do, it's not working -- the patches, that is.

Oh, hmm. I guess the patches aren't compatible with the Vista versions then.
Kind of a last resort I guess, but I did a quick torrent search and found something...
It's called "Ys 1 & 2 Complete [ENG, Latest Patches, Optional Files Incl]", google it if you're interested.
Edit: I just read that torrent's description on The Pirate Bay... cool, the torrent provider is Reiver. He used to run a very nice Ys website many years ago, he was also a member here, but only made a handful of posts.

I'm nto sure, but if I remember well, didn't NW update his patch so that it would work on Vista? Deuce contacted him about it, and NW quickly fixed it. So quick, that there was no version change (the version number remained the same).
I'm ALMOST sure of that. And it was somewhere in this forum. Around the Ys I/II sections, probably.
