I saw this in eb today for 30 bucks and noticed on the back there was Falcom's name.
Whats the deal with this game, and is it any good?

I wanted this game well before I even knew it was by Falcom. I bought it day one..had a quick price drop (I thought it went to $20 at EB?).

I am in canada so our prices are always a little higher, and our release dates are 4 days longer...its stupid.
I am going to pick this up tomorrow for sure then, and from what you said I don't think I'll be disappointed. I always felt a little alienated by falcom because I rarely use a pc to play videogames. There are a ton of Falcom series I have never played.

I think Gurumin is the first Falcom release I can't agree with. Everytime I play it, I only get maybe an hour or two in... and then I just call it quits because something rubs me the wrong way. (Not in THAT way, mind you!)
I don't know what it is, because it's better than Samurai Legend Musashi... hell, actually it feels like it's *trying* to be a Musashi game, and try to do right what Brave Fencer's sequel did wrong -- with the humor and brat-factor. It doesn't really work though, for me. Maybe I'm not as young-hearted as the rest of you... which would mark a strange change in history. I dunno, it's good, but I guess only if you're not doing a whole Gurumin marathon and trying to get 100% your first shot.

I got past the moles, got a few equippable elementals, and after that just fooled around trying to get the best possible runs through the first few stages; and succeeded. Maybe I am just bitter, because games of this particular style tend to grow on me. Wind Waker, Phantom Hourglass, Brave Fencer Musashi, Samurai Legend Musashi... I have a feeling that I'm forgetting a few from my collection, but there are a lot of cartoony games out there I enjoy. Nothing though, absolutely nothing seems to compare to Brave Fencer Musashi for me. The worst part? Gurumin reminds me so much of BFM, has so many common characteristics with it, and yet... it's like a cigarette. You enjoy it but then it reaches the filter, so you grab something else until you're ready for another one... or maybe you just give it another go after. I can honestly say I dl'd this one first, just to see if it was worth it. Maybe, just maybe I'll give it one more chance. ...after Persona 3.

Gurumin is indeed awesome. It was the game I bought my PSP for and while I'm not sure buying the PSP was worth it, buying Gurumin certainly was. Just plain fun from beginning to end, with a high quality soundtrack and a surprisingly good story. I wasn't expecting the ending to be quite as moving as it was, and I definitely didn't see the twist coming either.
So yeah, recommended to just about anyone.

I am going to pick this up tomorrow for sure then, and from what you said I don't think I'll be disappointed. I always felt a little alienated by falcom because I rarely use a pc to play videogames. There are a ton of Falcom series I have never played. I picked up my copy of the game when I was in the US last year cuz next to no stores around here carried it. >_> I got it for $19.99 US new. XD (Along with Dynasty Warriors 5 PS2 for $24.99 US new! BOOYAH for being at the right place at the right time! ^___^) What stinks is that the stores that DO carry the game around here STILL carry the $29.99 CAN price tag. =__=; Oh, a silly story about my Gurumin purchase~ I had to ask the guy at the counter if they had the game but he simply didn't know what I was asking because I pronounced it "Goor/loomin" (complete with the neither L or R sound ^^). I don't fully recall all the details but eventually, he was all, "Oooh. Grr-ru-min." It never crossed my mind to pronounce it a more English way although he had some girl-min sounding thing going so I'm not sure he would have gotten it anyway. :X Anyway, you shouldn't let the PC scare you away! ;o;! Falcom games are usually a bit behind the American ones when it comes to specs so even if you have a slightly aging system, you can still play a lot of their newer games. ^o^ Oh yeah, I should mention that even though I have Gurumin on PSP, I hardly played it. XD I tried reinstalling the PC version a while back but it refused to install even with the location changed to Japan and stuff. -.-

Not just a bit behind. And not usually. Always. And you can play all of them on a very old system, rather than a "slightly aging one". I tried Gurumin on an ancient 733 MHz Pentium III system with a worthless video card. It ran fine. More than fine. I always install my games on a seperate hard drive, so that they're still there when even after I have formatted the Windows drive (which I do quite often. Last time I did it was yesterday). So I never have to reinstall stuff. And unlike what some people like to say - games work like this, they don't do any magical things when you install them. I really recommend doing this, because installing games really sucks. Especially the new 10+ GB games.
