Alright, I'm not a total idiot, but I've exhausted all my resources. I'm running Vista, because that's what's loaded on my computer and I'm not gonna mess with that. Screwed a dell that way, so any comments like "Get XP" or something else aren't practical.
Okay, now to the problem. I know the avi files need the Indeo 5 driver and stuff, and according to the driver program, I should have it, yet any time I start Ys 1 or play the video files outside of it, all I get is a black screen, no video output whatsoever, just the audio track. Am I missing something here? I've reinstalled both Ys and the drivers to no avail. Is there a way to convert the video, is there a fix out there? I'm out of options because I really would like to have the full experience of playing the game!
Update: I don't know if anyone has this problem, needs a solution, or will have this... but meh, fixed it by looking in a vista help forum for codec troubles.
Instructions: Install the Indeo 5 codec normally if you haven't already.
Under the admin account, right click on command prompt in the start menu and select "Run as Admin"
Then type regsvr32 ir50_32.dll
if you did it right, a little message will pop up saying the dll was registered. Congrats, video should work. It seems the codec doesn't register properly under vista, or something. If this isn't needed or is already known... ah well, sorry.

Can anyone confirm if this fixes the flicker issue as well? My game plays the intro movie fine but the game flickers randomly and I read that it is associated with the indeo driver.
