YsF is kind of similiar to Ys VI, but way more focused on action, which I did not like. Ys III has such an awesome atmosphere to it, it is hard to beat. I also really like side scrolling adventure games.
The PS2 version is quite fun to play, because of its incredible graphics (that is IN GAME graphics - the "art" style for character portraits, etc is horrible). It also has better controls than the other versions.

The combo system kinda blows, actually. I never even used it. Only in the tutorial where you HAVE to use it, otherwise you can't go on.
One bad thing about the graphics are that they are almost never scrolling, you just walk across static pictures. Kind of in the original NES Zelda 1.

thats a bit disappointing but still it sounds worth importing, even though it may not be true side scrolling but if its similar to NES zelda then that sounds pretty interesting, ill definally give it a try

FM loves to exaggerate almost as much as I do. With that said, I think I speak for most of us when I say you can't really compare Ys III to Oath in Felghana. Both games are pretty hardcore in their own way, infact. Also: the combo system really DOES help when you're level grinding, especially on higher difficulties like Nightmare and Inferno!

Yeah but they are super old... I like these topics anyways.
Its hard to compare both games because they are so different, except in story. I had more fun with Ys III though because its:
Harder Better Gameplay Nostalgia Factor Super Awesome Soundtrack (PC Engine version all the way!!!) Longer Game Overall
Dont get me wrong, I love Oath in Felghana. Its just that the game feels more like a fan service then a true stand alone title.

I love Wanderers From Ys, but, for me, Oath In Felghana is the best Ys ever!

Ys III, longer than YsF?

Ys III and YsOiF (not YsOoF ) are very different games, it's hard to compare. I, personally, enjoy YsOiF more than all the Ys III versions, except for the PS2 version of Ys III. YsF is pretty much like Ys VI, but I find Ys VI to be better. So, if I want to play YsF, I'd rather choose Ys VI. And when I feel like playing Ys III, I'll play Ys III (PS2). I don't get tired of the PS2 version. Never. It's like a drug. YsF is ULTRA fun, ultra good and all that, but I do get tired of it, eventually. I can't play it for more than 4 straight hours, otherwise I get sick of it. But it's still great. Now, naturally, quality-wise, YsF is superior in every aspect (except for the music, which isn't necessarily better. Worse than PCE's and PS2's in my opinion).

YsF is far too repetitive to be enjoyable, in my (awesome) opinion.

Repetitive? OiF has better use of the platforming aspect of the 3D Ys games; at least better than AoN. Infact, there's more variety in battles while we're at it; different magic rings to be used, charging said rings, letting out all fury which hell hath no. Valestine Castle and the Clock Tower are great examples of its platform hopping madness. Furthermore, if you want to argue difficulty levels, just try playing OiF on Nightmare or Inferno. That'll keep you busy for a long, long time -- infact, much longer than Ys III would. Last I checked, Ys III didn't have difficulty settings, unless you were playing the MSX2 version. Even then, Ys III was alot easier and shorter than OiF. This is only my awesome opinion though, I can own up to that much.

I don't want a game to keep me busy for a long, long time. I want it to end as soon as possibly possible!!! I hate playing games it seems, because I always look forward to stop playing the game, regardless of what it is. Guess I'm losing interest. What I dislike the most about YsF is that you have to kill SOOO many enemies all the time. I wish it was more like Zelda or Oblivion, where you only encounter very few enemies, and don't usually need to kill them. I guess that's why I like Ys III. It's such a short game. And since there's that bird area in the ruins, you don't need to grind much either (only when you're there).

Speaking of OiF, I went to check it, and it seems lost all of its data!! FUCK!!! But why?! >:/ I saved the whole folder when I formated the PC. So where are the save files located? Weird stuff. Though fortunatelly I still have all my notes of my FAQs I'm making for it. *sigh* Ys III is so short, I wouldn't have to get bothered if I lost its data! A true and on-topic comment.

The save data for Falcom games is located in the application data folder. Here:
C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\FALCOM

Hmmm... maybe luckily I also made a back-up of the "Documents and Settings" folder. Hm, but I'll see if this FALCOM folder is still intact... Thanks, FM-77. xD Sorry for the offtopic, I hope it won't hurt this thread furthermore. Ys III = needs a REAL remake

C'mon, the PS2 remake of Ys III is not half bad. Maybe not perfect, but pretty good. And if you can't find the folder, Red, tell your PC to show the hidden ones.
