eyo. I was wondering if anyone could help me out on a certain level. It's the level where you're in the mountains and you try to save that professor guy's apprentice Urr (or however you spell his name). how do you fend off those creatures that follow you around? x-x no matter what I do, they just won't die.

The Domo-san looking creatures, that just chomp away at you? Jump, and as you're coming down, strike; you'll stab them into the ground.

That is also a good spot to earn emil early on, and use it to upgrade your weapon early on.

Hey guys,
I am playing the PC version of this game on Normal, and no matter what I do I can't damage these monsters. I am doing the downward slash, tried it both when they are underground and above ground, and it does 0 damage points to them.
What am I missing???

Do you mean the creatures at Grana-Vallis that Unsavory described? If so, it's just as he said: aerial downward thrust the sword into them. There is absolutely no other way.

That's the move where you jump and as you are falling you press the attack button right? I am doing it and it does no damage. Do you have to be a certain level for it to work?

Not that I'm aware of, especially on Normal.
I can't find an explanation to this, and considering it's the PC version, I think it's likely to be a bug of some sort.

It is indeed level-based, or maybe more specifically attack stat based. I went back to town and leveled up my sword and that was just enough attack power to be able to (barely) damage those enemies... 1 or 2 points per attack. Took forever to kill them.
Then I got to the boss and I am back to 0 haha. Guess I gotta level up, too bad these games require grinding.

Definitely had to grind out a few levels just now. The second boss was invulnerable to my attacks until I gained a few levels. By invulnerable I mean, "0 points of damage." So unfortunately grinding was necessary to progress.
Luckily you level up pretty quickly in Ys games so it's not like I had to spend hours leveling up. Still, would be nice if Falcom would set the minimum damage at 1 or something, so people that want to go through under-leveled wouldn't get stuck (no matter how tedious it might become).

OH! *has an epifany* ... Yes, indeed, I had forgotten a crucial detail... You see, when you play Ys VI on NORMAL, if your attack power isn't high enough, you may deal zero damage. The reason as to why I didn't recall that was in the other two harder difficulties (HARD and NIGHTMARE) you always, ALWAYS inflict AT LEAST 1 of damage, as odd as that fact may be. (There's an explanation for that, but I don't think anyone here is interested. xD) However, I must say that when I played the game on Normal, I never encountered an enemy that wouldn't get damaged by me, bosses included, unless I attempted fighting enemies that were obviouslt NOT meant to be fought at the given point. (Attempting Limewater Cave before Grana-Valis, for example.) I believe you are running past enemies a lot. xD You mustn't do that in RPGs! (Unless you're speedrunning. )

I agree, the only way you're going to be really under leveled in Ys VI is if you keep avoiding fights.

Well, I didn't know which difficulty to start on, so I just figured I would start out on Normal... but... the game was way too easy so I figured I would try being underleveled. Good to know about the higher difficulty levels. I am really enjoying this game, so after I am done with Normal I will be sure to go back and play it on Hard or Nightmare.

I'm sure you're gonna enjoy it. The game can be quite challenging on harder difficulties, specially bosswise.
