Legend of heroes IV has been sparking some interest in me lately. I don't know Japanesel, but I am pretty good at making it through import games.
Problem is I don't know what consoles it was released on, how many installments there were, and how easy they are to grab.

If the gameplay is basically the same as III - V then I wont bother.

Worth getting? VERY YES. Worth getting if you don't understand Japanese though? Probably not. The gameplay is fun but the story and characters are massively important parts of the games and it just wouldn't be the same without them.
They are without a doubt my favourite Falcom games though. Cannot wait until Legend of Heroes 7.

Only the 3-5 on PSP NTSC. I am working on finding Dragon Slayer: Legend of Heroes.
Unfortunately that is one of the games NOT covered in HG101's article on the Dragon Slayer series.

The English version of LOH1 for PCE is fairly hard to get ahold of, and it will cost you around 50 dollars, usually.

It works, of course. I prefer to play it on an emulator, rather than on a real system, because you can fast-forward it. The encounter rate is SICK! You'll even encounter enemies standing still, and sometimes they'll pop up INSTANTLY after a battle has ended. Overall, it is a bad game, but at least it has charm, so it can still be enjoyable. I could never bear to play through it though, because of its constant battles (that aren't entertaining in the least) and the terrible, almost non-existant story. By the way, the Japanese version can be had, fully complete and mint condition, for $1 or less on Ebay, so I recommend that over the English version, since you know Japanese. The voice acting most likely sucks in that too, but at least the English one is hilarious, in a crazy way. PS: The Mega Drive version is way better than all of the others. It's hard to come by, though. Well, not THAT hard. At least not on Yahoo Japan, there's almost always at least one copy available there.

Uh, yeah. I actually own Dragon Slayer: LOH PCE Japanese. XD Wish I paid $1 for it. :P
And you know why I got it? I liked one or two tunes is why! :P Hooray for redbook audio!
So yeah, I never played the game before. The only PCE games I have and tried were Ys I & II and Ys IV. I also have Ys III and Wizardry V: Heart of the Maelstrom (which I bought for the music. Again. ^^) but never tried those.
Dur, meant to say, if you want Dragon Slayer, wyrdwad, I can send it your way. I don't even touch the thing anymore. I can't remember if I have (or if it came with) the obi though.
Oh yeah, silly question but ... the game only consists of 1 disc, right? ^^ Also, I have no idea what generation owner I have of this but if it was just owned by one other person, the person didn't really care much about taking care for the manual or the poster. >_> I hate people like that.

It consists of one disc, yes. In fact, there are no PCE multi disc games.

It consists of one disc, yes. In fact, there are no PCE multi disc games. Stupid misleading double-CD case! I guess they used it cuz of the mini poster.

Yeah my Falcom Classics 1 came in a double case, but there was only one cd. I felt jipped!!
How about if anyone has the first game, send it to ether Wyrdwad or me. We will gladly pay good gamer coins.
Ill prob just sent it your way after I am done with it, just so we can both enjoy the game.

Yeah, there are a crapton of PCE RPGs and such that use that 2-disc case. I don't think there are any 2-disc PCE games anyway, but a lot use the big case. The system "is" incapable of handling 2-disc games. It is technically possible, but wasn't oficially supported so it was never done.

I actually found the damn game, sitting at my local video game store. I checked out the begining and its pretty damn 1991ish. I loved Vay, Lunar and what little I played of Cosmic Fantasy 2, and this game is very similar. What I cant get over is that stupid fake Scotish accent the old guy uses. Total cheese, but oh soooo 90's good.

The voices make the game! Without them, it's nothing!

It is quite easy to be a Japnese amateur~ But won't the ignorance of Japnese kiss your ass when you want to deeply investigate the content of the game?
