mapS "Ys: Celceta, The Sea of Trees" is the ultimate double-edged sword of the Ys series. Never seen an Ys title with so much to criticize, but that at the same time does a lot of things very well, especially in gameplay. I wonder if many here actually played it, and perhaps even finished it? (I'm not too far from finishing my first playthrough, personally.)

Also, found a looooot of bugs in Ys Celceta. Certainly a game much, much buggier than Ys Seven. Most of the bugs are minor, though, but some are still a nuisance, while others are outright hilarious and/or interesting and/or useful.

That reminds me... That book that one guy had made regarding Japanese Game Development History seemed to cover many super interesting things, from what I heard... Such as the Ys III original script being with Quintet, Shade or Ancient, or so? And that it was actually not even going to be an Ys game, but became so eventually, and was going to be called Ys Gaiden, but Falcom heads decided calling it "Ys III" would sell it better etc. etc.. I wonder if I should buy it, in the end...

I'd highly recommend purchasing the Untold History of Japanese Game Developer's book. It's really a fantastic compilation of materials straight from the source! It goes it to good detail of how several of these developers got their start, what they were inspired by, business moves and strategies and how they related to both released and unreleased games and a fair bit of concept art and design documents are shown and documented as well.
Besides, John needs for the sales of the book to do well in order to push out Volumes 2 and 3, which he has enough material for but could not include it into a tome of information that was already 500+ pages long! Without the sales the other books won't happen.
I'd highly recommend it for anyone who is in our hobby of collecting and learning about video game history.

That is pretty kickass, excellent find and nice tribute to the music of Brandish. That book also seems pretty interesting, wondering if they can mail it over to Europe...or if it exists in some bookstore around my town...

I have some Brandish Fever going on right now... Last night I installed Brandish 1 Renewal and Brandish 3 Renewal on my PC-98 from CD. I can play it from CD, but trying to get around that if possible. Either way, I'm pretty sure I could create a bootable HDI image that contains the necessary install files and write an autoexec for it to launch when the CD is inserted and provide the BIN/CUE files for the CD version that could be accessed via Neko Project II, then these could be played without any problems via emulation and without the need of ever swapping disks. Then, Translation Project for Brandish III? I'd love to work with someone on that... I wish I had Brandish 2 Renewal on CD. There is one on Yahoo Auctions right now in fact, only I do not have the funds for it... It's the only one I'm missing and I'd LOVE to find a rip of the CD sometime if one exists... -Thomas

To the ebay member who bid on my Zelda II OST: I said in the auction that is is a 3 inch mini disc. You accused me of sending something that is not as described, and would like the "item you ordered". You gave me a link to the CD at the vgmdb, and that is exactly what I sent. That IS what you ordered! Whatever.... Sorry YOU didn't read the auction description.

It's a double rules! As Dragon Spirit and Saber already rule so much, an added arrangement by the master is mindblowing.

I've watched a few of those charity speedruns recently, and it looks like everyone is always having such a good time. It would be great to be at one.

LLCoolDave speed running through the first three episodes of Duke Nukem 3D in under 13 minutes: Holy shit! There seems to have been an increased interest in Duke 3D since that run, with the current WR of episodes 1-3 I think being this 9:29. There's even been some 100% attempts from at least one user, though I've yet to give those a watch. Anyway, the SDA topic has been updated on a fairly regular basis, so here's the link to that: forum.speeddemosarchive.com/post/duke_nukem_3d_megaton_edition.html

Let me start this off by saying this is not a vendetta against WaterMelon. I'm not trying to convince anyone not to support them or to not buy Pier Solar HD. From what I have played of Pier Solar, the Genesis/MD demo, it is great. If you like 16bit era RPGs you'll likely love the game. Also this is regarding the Genesis/Mega Drive reprint. Xalphenos: Why not? I don't believe I've ever heard of WaterMelon. What did they do that's made you decide not to support them? BLUF(bottom line up front): They have missed several dates that they said the game would be available on. Kept their paying customers completely in the dark. Misrepresented the games availability on their store for months. So It basically comes down to lack of communication, poor communication, and seemingly a lack of caring toward their paying customers. Which in my opinion is unprofessional. As a consumer I will exercise my right to vote with my wallet and will no longer be supporting them. But here is the backstory/long version. The game originally came out in 2010 and I really wanted it but due to several things I wasn't able to get it. Eventually it was reprinted a couple times but after missing the first one I didn't really keep up with it so I didn't know. Last December I got word that they were gearing up for another reprint and it was likely going to be the last Genesis/Mega Drive reprint. I went to their sight and saw that there was in fact another reprint and it was listed as available on 3/25/2014. The only way to get the game was to preorder it and you had to pay the full amount up front, USD $59. So on January 4 2014 I ordered the game. Got a confirmation email and was happy. March came and I was getting pretty excited. March 25th came and went. At first I wasn't too worried. Mail can take time sometimes and all that. Then it was April 1st and I was pretty upset. It's been a week since the available date listed when I ordered and I haven't received my item or any emails about it. Did I get ripped off? Am I the unfortunate victim of some computer error. I went to their website saw the game was still purchasable and the availability date was still listed as 3/25. After doing some thread diving in their forums I found out the game was delayed. But there wasn't any information beyond that. I was a little pissed that I had to go to a forum to get info on my purchase when they should have, and could have easily, emailed the customers who already bought the game. They certainly didn't miss a chance to send me an email in February about their upcoming games. Fast forward to July 2nd. I actually receive my first email regarding my order since the confirmation of payment email on January 4th. This actually just served to piss me off more. Delays I could have been ok with. I could have been ok with them waiting a week or two after missing the date before emailing customers. But three months? Really? The email said that they were experiencing delays due to a new manufacturing process. Completely understandable but why wait three months to let customers know. Surely that was the same reason for the delay in March/April. The email also said that production would ramp up in about 4 weeks. Meanwhile watermelon's shop still had the game for sell and still listed it as available 3/25/2014. Finally some time in August they get around to updating their shop and listing the available date as 10/1/2014. Alright finally I can expect the game in October. We also got our last email from WM. On August 20th tacked on to an email about elyssian shadows we got this golden nugget of info in regard to the genesis reprint "We will send a separate news with more details shortly." Well October first came and went. No game, no email updates. Back to the forums. Nothing. And the worst part is the forums are impossible to find real info in anymore. It's just a bunch of complaining. People complaining about not getting the game and people complaining about the people complaining and telling them they don't have the right to complain. And in what I saw as the ultimate slap in the face last week one of the people at WM actually said: Ok I understand this point but... this game was programmed in 2010. Finding programmers who can code for retro systems is completely irrelevant to Pier Solar's genesis reprint. And to top this all off it didn't start back in March. That's just when it started for me. Apparently WM has been missing dates and keeping their customers in the dark for about two years now.
