Not at all, they are cheap on eBay and on Steam as well.
You can play in any order that you like since they are essentially two different distinct characters. I actually played the second game in the series first called "Dreamfall" and through that, I was able to meet the protagonist of the first game in an interesting way because she is praised for her deeds and it becomes exciting when you get a chance to meet her. Maybe that would be a bit different had the player previously played the first game called simply, "The Longest Journey".
I really liked Dreamfall a lot and it does end on quite a cliffhanger, so it's great to see this game being made to conclude the series.

It kinda sounds like playing Phantasy Star IV before playing the first one, because of how much you learn about the heroine, yet I get the impression that it plays like King's Quest, Myst, or the Darkfall series. I haven't played an adventure game since Quest for Glory last year. Another Kickstarter game I'm looking forward to is Freedom Planet. It appears to be a cross between Rocket Knight, Sonic the Hedgehog, Gunstar Heroes and Ristar -- combining those four games is like a dream come true! I was also pretty hyped about Project Giana (aka Giana Sisters - Twisted Dreams), because the concept of switching between punk and regular Giana affecting the entire game world (and sound track!) was just all too impressive! I can't wait until it gets a 360 release!

Well the idea behind the Longest Journey series is that there are other worlds besides that of our own. Where do the ideas of Magic and Monsters come from? Are they just pure fiction and things that people wish were real that have been passed throughout time as mere stories, or do they come from a different world, one parallel to our own, yet one that is impossible to reach for most. Yet, there are some who have managed to find their way to travel between worlds. : )
It's one of the best adventure game series I've played and much better than Quest for Glory. I'm a big QFG fan and I've played them all except for the last in the series, DragonFire.
I've also backed Freedom Planet. Definitely looking forward to that when it's released! : )

That picture alone justifies why Adol should end up with Lilia instead of any of the others. Go, Lilia!

Everyone knows that Adol's going to end up with Dogi. Lilia can't crush walls, she just picks apples and inadvertently kills demons. : )
Edit: An Ys fan named Nai255 recently posted on my backloggery and I thought this would be an appropriate add on for the above post. lol

As much as I like Dogi, I prefer him to stay with his Ys V girl. xD He can crush her walls instead.

If trails of flash, like the "flash" of drawing a weapon doesn't work as a translation, what about Swordstream? The Legend of Heroes: Swordstream The Legend of Heroes: Path of the Sword The Legend of Heroes: Path of the Blade The Legend of Heroes: Flash of the Sword The Legend of Heroes: Blade Stream The Legend of Heroes: Flash of the Blade The Legend of Heroes: Sword Flash The Legend of Heroes: Sword of Light
Something I was thinking about based on some twitter posts I saw.
