Yeah, I was eating a bunch of bananas today and then I came up with this topic. ... xD Anyway, do you eat many bananas? And most importantly: how much do they cost in your country or at where you live? Where I live bananas are ultra-cheap. 12 of them generally cost about R$3,00. Considering a USD$ is about 2 R$ today, that would mean 12 units would be USD$ 1,50. Oh yeah, also try to avoid buying bananas in supermarkets. The ones sold there and in many "common" stores had a forced growth, meaning they are less nutritious, harder and less sweet than the ones sold by "normal people" who had let their bananas take their time to grow and become real good food. Mm.

They cost 2€ per kilo here. I've never really liked bananas. They're edible, but not much more than that. I don't like the texture, and I don't like those little stripes that are along the pulp, you know what I mean. They're gross. At least they are rather filling, and you can eat them very quickly.

I can't stand bananas. X( Horrible tasting fruit which leaves a bad taste in your mouth.
I was forced to eat them as a kid since my mom hoped they would make me fatter. X( Ick. When I went on a strike, suddenly banana milk shakes appeared in my life. Double ick! And when I finally thought I was free of the bane of bananas, in college, each time my mom would visit, she'd come with 12 bananas! DX Argh!! (and then I'd feel so bad and so sad each time she went back home, I'd just eat them and feel sick.)
</end banana rant>
Oh, one gets a dozen for about 120 Rupees now. That would be... around 2 US$? And while that may seem cheap, its actually quite a lot? Once upon a time (like 2 years back), one could get a dozen for 24 Rs. Silly inflation!
(Ofcourse that means I'm now free from the curse of the banana... X'D)

Rupees... >.>" The sad truth is, they really aren't gems. They're paper just like everywhere else! >.<" I was disappointed to find that out. Bananas... well, I like bananas. If Nestle would just release more banana milk products out here, I'd be happy. >_< Banana milk is freakin' scarce, I can never find it! At least the English and British have banana milk powder mix! As for actual bananas, I love em. I just don't love em as much as banana milk. =\ I agree, the weird texture the banana peel leaves behind on the banana is gross and unappetizing.

Hmm, like I said, the ones from supermarkets or any regular food store they are much worse than the "original", which is much less common. FM-77 and Yakra, do you remember if the bananas you ate were rather hard or were they very soft and sweet?
There are also many types of bananas. I'm not sure of their names in english, but I'll write their names how they could be called (translating their names literarily to english). The most common one is called "Silver Banana". It's neither big or small, and it really isn't the worst or the best. Then, there's the "Apple Banana" (my favorite), which is a very sweet and extremely soft banana, for example. It also exists bananas with a red skin instead of yellow that need to be cooked first (I don't like those, and they are pretty rare). Any idea of the banana types you ate? xD

Just regular green bananas that turn yellow when they're ready to be eaten. They're big, and they tend to be quite soft. They also tend to be dry and sticky. >.<
I know someone's just waiting for me to say something about that -- if not waiting to say something about it themselves. >.<"

Hehe, most bananas are green that turn yellow later. xD That red one was a very exotic exception. There are over than 10 banana types like that, having had their growth forced or not, to make things worse. xD What changes between their types is: - Skin color (stronger or weaker yellow tone) - Size (lots of sizes are available) - Width - "Humidity" (some are REALLY dry and leave you an uncomfortable feeling on the throat; others are rather "humid" and are nice to eat) - Sweetness - Hardness I'm picky when it's about bananas. I don't eat bananas sold in supermarkets or food stores. I also do my best to get that "Apple Banana", which is the tastier, softest and sweetest banana of all, with "Golden Banana" as a second (which unfortunately are extremely hard to find. For some reason, here in Brazil you see people selling theses when you are in one of these "huge avenues/ roads" that link distant cities. You can park the car somewhere in the grass and buy these small, golden-toned bananas whenever you do a trip by car or something. Yeah, I guess I said all I knew, basically. xD Oh! Also I extremely dislike anything that has banana on it or is banana-flavored, whatever it is. I only like the real thing, AND if it's of good quality.

I love them, and just bought some at the store. After a long absence from banana milk, I found a place that sells it. I can get some if I take the long way from work. Banana milk rules!

Bananas... well, I like bananas. If Nestle would just release more banana milk products out here, I'd be happy. >_< Banana milk is freakin' scarce, I can never find it! At least the English and British have banana milk powder mix! Maybe all of you guys' banana milk supply got shipped over to here? I wanted chocolate Nesquik so bad last month and there was nothing but banana available everywhere! X((( Hrm... as for where the bananas that plagued my life came from - roadside stalls? Thats where everyone buys them from? Nice and cheap! Or the Sunday bazaar, where all the farmers gather and sell their bananas (and other fruits and veggies) for the lowest rates! No supermarkets! So basically, they were as normal and fresh as ever. ...I think though one can find the freshest bananas in supermarkets and special grocery stores though. Those are, I'm sure, the most untreated with chemicals or something. Those are incredibly expensive though! Oh! And I have a banana tree in my house! There were three actually. But they chopped them down. Banana trees are incredibly resilient though! One just ripped apart our driveway to grow anew! Er... since I hate bananas I never quite paid attention to the names or types. The only memorable one which really sticks in my mind are these ones from Bangladesh which I once tried. They were looooong (unending! DX ), a bit hard, and not that obnoxiously sweet as most bananas tend to be.

I'll eat them whenever I see them. They're all from supermarkets, but it's not exactly easy to find homegrown/local ones here either. Sales of up to 8 pounds (~4kg) per 1 USD. I think a bunch of 8 bananas typicall weighs like 6 pounds or so, can't remember off-hand exactly.

I have eaten many kinds of bananas, some are better than others, but on the whole I think they're pretty gross. Again, edible... but not much more than that. I DO however like some things that are banana flavored. Like candy and yoghurt.

I love bananas, but can't recall how much they cost hear, its cheap regardless.
I love how using bananas can turn the blandest cereal into the best thing to eat. Corn Flakes, Rice Crispies, Special K are all really really reallly good with bananas.

BAAAAAAAAAANAAAAAAAAAANAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
They're so yummy when they're mushy and super ripe! (Not with the all black skin but with lots of black dots~!)
And yes, putting them in cereal (with strawberries and blueberries) is AMAZING. :9~~~~~~~~
Aren't the large green ones used mostly for cooking though? Well, I guess it depends on the culture. ^^
Red is lucky to be surround with so many types of bananas! :o

I have a banana tree in my house. XD
It produces that ultra-rare red banana I mentioned, but since my garden's soil isn't good enough for it, only ONCE has it grow a bunch of these red bananas in about 8 years. My family is thinking about taking some procedures to "revive" the tree though.

Most Bananas are less than 1US$ per lb or ~1/2 a kg.
Baby bananas tend to be a little sweeter but grainier. They're a lot better for cooking IMO.
Plantains are not to be eaten w/o cooking. They're big bananas that come in red skins and they're so starchy. They're a lot like a potato. Deep fry em or sautée them and they're almost like potato chips.

If you have an ache on your legs (any muscle actually) when you ran a lot a day before or something, bananas will really heal you in no time.
A great "tool" for sportsman.
Also, don't sleep if you just have eaten bananas, especially over 5 of them. Chances are that you'll eventually suddenly wake up an throw up. The stomach don't work with its full potential while you sleep, and bananas aren't digested very easily.
