I have the vista ready edition (ver. 1.2.0.3). wich worked fine under XP. but under vista, clicking on the game or configuration icons does not start the game/game configuration app.
When i change my regional settings to japanese, or use applocale to load the game, the screen goes blank, and then goes back to the desktop instantly, with no error. Clicking on the configuration icon still doesn't do anything tough.
Installing the english patch does the same thing. Except i don't need to run applocale.
please help!

People still use Vista? It's time to upgrade to XP. The English patch removes that regional junk, so no need to use applocale or japanese settings for that. So that's not your problem. But I don't know what else could be. Maybe a driver issue?

Vista's fine for me, i've got a nice machine, i'd hate to upgrade to xp only for that one single game [lol!] when even ol' grandia II is working fine.
I have all the latest drivers installed for my hardware. I'm puzzled, not sure where to start to troubleshoot this.

It works great! Its a PC port, so there are some bugs here and there, but overall it's working great.

Cool, I never knew it made its way onto PC. Its weird how some major console titles sneaked their way onto the PC during that era, but they were never to be seen on shelves.

It's somewhere in one of them video gaming threads!Man, I wish I still had the screenshots from that game. I used to move characters in such a way on purpose that they all merged into ONE CREEPY BEING due to clipping issues. ^^; I sort of want to play the game again. Just like how I sort of want to continue with Tales of the Abyss. However, I know I will do neither. In fact, I'm not even motivated to play Zwei II right now. :P

This is a potshot in the dark because I neither have Vista or know your system configuration but it's possible the game doesn't play nice with x64 version if that's what you have?

Glad to know I'm not alone on this one, can't figure it out for the life of me I 'just' finished Origins, and had to keep my fix going To start, here's my system: Vista Ultimate 64 bit c2d e7200 p5q-e current bios 4g ddr2 1066 BFG 9600gtoc I installed Oath to C:\Program Files (x86)\FALCOM\FALCOM, (Wasn't sure exactly what the install was asking for on the first screen ) then ran the English patch, which asked to update, which I let it do, then it exited gracefully. When I told the installer to run the game after the patch install, my cpu usage pegged, and continued to sit and spin on it. After running each one of the executables in the install directory, it seems like each one of them has the same result. Likewise, running each one under XP compatability mode causes the same issue. Like I was saying, I just completed Origins, which the only issue I had was cured with AppLocale. I'm super amped on playing through this one, since I always heard the Turbo CD version I grew up with was a really bad translation. And clues on this would be mega appreciated, thanks!

Uh, you know, there IS a separate version of this game that runs on Vista. :P If you're using the original one (the one that was part of the Premium Edition with the billion soundtrack CDs), it WILL NOT WORK ON VISTA.
So depending on which one people have pirated or bought, you're probably SOOL with trying to run it on Vista. I would think the torrent would have been created from the first release of the game which is the Premium Edition.
Patching the game to the newest patch also doesn't miraculously make it capatible with Vista.
Also, from my understanding, there seems to be something about the patches only working for the ones that come in a physical package (like from an actual brick and mortar store) and not the downloaded version. I guess there are some online stores in Japan that allow folks to download Falcom games. :O
Here's the message:
◇◆注意◆◇ サポートプログラムは、パッケージ版の製品専用です。 ダウンロード版製品にはご利用できませんのでご注意ください。
I don't think the above would apply for anyone here since I don't think any of us would go to Japanese on-line stores to buy games. :E
Now, the thing is, I have no idea when the standard edition of the game got added Vista support cuz the one I have (catalogue number NW10107260), doesn't have ANYTHING about Vista on the box or the manual. I take it there was a later release!

Hope nobody minds me bumping this topic.
Anyway, my brother wanted to play YsF, so I let him borrow it. We ran into the same problems as the topic creator; the game attempts to load and almost immediately crashes back to the desktop, config utilities don't run at all, etc. His computer is a Windows Vista, and the one I use is Windows XP. We tried running the game via Applocale, running it under XP compatibility mode, running it via the administrator option, copying the files straight from the DVD to the hard drive (heard that installation doesn't complete correctly if not running under Japanese settings). Nothing. Doesn't even run unpatched off the DVD. At this point I suspect it might be a problem with the video driver (Intel(R) G33/G31 Express Chipset Family), but I don't think he wants to upgrade it just to play one game, especially since he has others in the mail.
I actually had similar issues on the XP computer a while ago (except that I could run the config utilities), but somehow managed to get the game running normally again, which leads me to believe that perhaps its not the graphics card after all (I've upgraded the XP graphics card since, but the game always worked before that with few problems). No such luck with the Vista one. If anyone could offer a solution, it would be much appreciated.

Finally got the game running, although I'm not quite sure how. What we did was download the latest Falcom patch here, ran it, then re-applied Nightwolve and Deuce's patch. It's odd though, because the first thing we did was apply Falcom's patch after installing the game, then Nightwolve and Deuce's afterwards, and the game failed to run. Although, the first time we tried installing Falcom's patch, I don't think it had the "VE" part in its filename (not sure if there's any difference, but I know that the "VE" one worked, and the "regular" one didn't). Come to think of it, I think that was the exact same problem I had on the XP computer a while ago. So, if anyone's still having trouble getting the games to run on a Vista (or XP, for that matter), I'd suggest to apply the "Very Easy" Falcom patch, and to be sure it has the "VE" extension in the filename. You'll need to re-apply Nightwolve and Deuce's patch afterwards, though, unless you want to play the game in Japanese.

I need help with running this game. I recently bought a new PC and it runs Windows 7. Now when I initially bought the game I had a PC running Windows XP. Anyhow, I am trying to get this game to run, but always fails to launch. Is there anyway someone here can help me?
I've already beaten the game, but I would still like the option to play it again. Any help given would be thoroughly appreciated.

In Vista, the game has to be run "as administrator". I'm not sure if Win7 works the same way.

^ Didn't know that; doesn't matter for me since I'm the only one using the computer anyway.
