What do you mean by " changing up their formula " that didn't get right ?

I don't buy it man. I still think you've run yourself into a wall, and you just need to admit you're a fanboy We all know you hate SE dude, and we're all friends here. We'll help you through this troubled time, and we understand

YES! In fact, I can! I am playing both of those games at the same time, and I can tell they are made from the same company. I'm just not jaded

Heh. Justin kinda wins.
I personally don't like a lot about new RPGs but... I can kinda see the progression, honestly. It makes sense, it goes forward, and really if you analyze it (Does analyze really have the word anal in it, or am I wrong?) it does work.
X to X-2 to XI to XII to XIII it all works. And IX to X? Yeah. VII to VIII? That too. Like, when they went to X-2 they tried making it more action packed. With XI they made it an online RPG so they mixed a bunch of stuff. XII took that offline and streamlined it with gambits, and XIII seems to work with the pattern, but I don't know enough about it.
The thing is, there's a big difference between platforms, and those mark big changes for a company with big bucks. Falcom isn't nearly as mucho dollaro as Square-Enix and probably for the best.
I do like Falcom for the better, as far as I've played. But Final Fantasy I is great, and so is FFIV.

Oh certainly, they're very different, and I can understand not liking them I'm only really checking out XIII because it is so current and I'd like to be part of the here and now, rather than yesterday. I prefer classic Final Fantasies too, and only things before 7 without massive class systems interest me (I, IV, VI, VII)

I'm saddened to hear it feels different to you, but at the same time, I don't think i would experience the same art and battle system from Capcom or Sega or any other company, Do you suggest any other studio would make FF13 ?
I think FF3 is the last traditional FF not FF7. My concerns with recent FF games are Overworld, Airship ,Town simulation and NPC interaction which most of them will be featured in FF versus 13.

How so? You've only seen trailer footage, and nothing in game. The trailer footage was designed to look and be like the world that is established in FF13.
The exact same thing could be said about Ys 7 compared to Ys 1. If you deny that, your are totally full of shit, because the art, story, music, gameplay, and overall direction of the series has totally changed over the last 20 years. Much to FF's bane however, this is the reason you feel SE has "instilled no soul" into FF13.
Again, I think the bottom line here is we've played the game. You've watched it.
I'm done.

The dumbapples were meant to be symbolic. The real story was the deaths of two (or three) great men, the suffering of a psychotic long silver haired fairy, the love of an ancient, and how they all went down in history. I, for one, loved Crisis Core. So much so, that I played through it twice -- and completed it, the second time through. I still look forward to XIII and XIII-2. At the very least, I think you should at least rent XIII before judging it.

I bought Crisis Core 'cause it didn't look too bad and only cost $12. I never even put it in my PSP and then completely forgot I owned it until a month later.
...still haven't put it in my PSP

I'll still probably hate it, though. (: Self-fulfilling prophecy. Just say you hate it because that's what's going to happen. There's probably little gnomes in your brain that kick something in it that triggers the anti-modern-FF impulse. No matter how hard you try to like it, you will hate! Hell, you don't even need to see anything from the game; just the title can invoke hatred! (Crisis Core doesn't count because that's an aside. XD)

No it doesn't because it's not a true FF game to begin with --- as in, it's not one of the numbered ones. It's a sidestory so it's not expected that it'll follow typical FF design and gameplay. XD
I mean, look at Dirge of Cerberus or whatever. I think even Before Crisis is different. :3!

I liked the Gambit system. TOT! As in, I liked fiddling around with all the battle options for the characters.
But IIRC, XII was more automated than XIII so people should give the latter a try if they didn't like XII's battle system. :B

That's my exact complaint. I actually got bored and never picked it up again. Somehow I think XIII looks a LOT more enjoyable.

Plus you'll find yourself cursing and screaming at the AI as you wonder why it chose one attack or buff/debuff over another! It's quite fun!

Well, I don't like the battle system in it AT ALL But it's not different from a regular turn based RPG other than the fact that you don't get taken to a separate screen and there's no fanfare after each battle! Also, people need to stop dishing out complaints to the gambit system. At no point in the game are you forced to use it, so anyone that says "hurf durf game plays itself" really can't blame anyone other than themselves.

The game sucks even without using the gambits. It's a god damn single-player game built around an atypical MMO engine. I hate that shit. I want to play fucking Final Fantasy, not god damn EverQuest or World of Warcraft. // Wyrdwad's explained it for me.

So play an older game then. I don't get the point of snobbing a new title for not playing exactly like an older title. It isn't like the fun you are looking for can't be found in another title.
Again, people expect too much out of the series. They are just video games.
