I was just andering myself: What is the part of Falcom and the part of Hudson in the developpment of this game? This Ys 4 is not considered as the "official" maybe because Falcom let Hudson in charge?

Ok thanks. So it seems that flacom gave a script and let hudson do the dev. I think the music was from falcom too? I find it weird to let other compagnies do one episode of their major licences. Even if it seems common in this industry (nintendo did it with zelda on GBA for instance). I guess maybe they trusted hudson because of Ys 1 2 3...

From what I understand, Falcom outsourced the game because they were too busy working on Legend of Xanadu to make an Ys game at the same time. It seems that Falcom is intentionally avoiding the issue of Ys IV, which is unfortunate, as it's a favorite of mine and I'd love to see a "definitive" version.

Despite it's differences with the Mask of the Sun, how come all the Ys IV CDs feature "The Dawn of Ys" on them? Even the Ys V promo (see below) shows The Dawn of Ys instead of Mask of the Sun. The Ys IV anime promo has Dawn of Ys also.
Was The Dawn of Ys the title Falcom officially created for the Ys IV story? The description of Ys IV on the Falcom site still lists both games. Though DoY isn't official, it still seems like Falcom really favored that game over Mask of the Sun.

In regards to Ryo, he did the music for all of Hudson's Falcom ports. But, he didn't do the music, AFAIK to any of the other Falcom games on the PCE(Brandish, Sorcerian, Popful Mail).
