Just watched the movie Unstoppable. Great action inspired by a true incident although having a "dinosaur sound" on the unmanned train is stupid. 8/10
Oh and the Shrek series is so overrated. The movie is nothing but typical Hollywoodized stereotype. The same with some Dreamworks animation movie as well. I prefer Pixar movies thank you. Man Toy Story 3 is an excellent movie and it's so sad (I got sad when Bo Beep is not there anymore) especially it's near ending.

Haven't seen any Toy Stories since the first when I was a whippersnapper (and a red snapper--ha ha, Indian joke. Racism is funny.) but I agree with the Shrek comment even if I kind of like 'em. Truth is, the Hollywoodness of pretty much ANY modern movies is palpable. You can feel the act transitions and can practically time the conflict cues with a watch.

Saw Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World. I actually enjoyed it many many times more than I expected to. I thought it would just be okay, but the manner of directing and some of the absolute absurdity made it golden. It had elements of zaniness that reminded of Scrubs, and it seemed fitting to watch while mourning Leslie Nielson. (not that I'm particularly broken up over it, as I didn't know him, but I WAS a big fan of his movies as a kid)
And to expand on the Hollywood thing, I just really dislike all the cliche. Writing classes pretty much pound into your brain how to follow a set formula to achieve maximum effectiveness, and it results in everything being pretty generic. I remember watching a behind the scenes session from Lost where the Executive Producer vetoed the writers plans for an episode, because he said that a relationship couldn't continue because "if you look at any Hollywood romance, it's boy wants girl, boy gets girl, boy loses girl." So while not everything that fits the formula is bad, the forced predictable unpredictability makes alot of movies seem kind of tedius to me. (Romantic comedies are by far the worst. Turn on the timer on the DVD, you can literally estimate by fractions when they're gonna get together, and when something's going to jeapordize the relationship, and when they're going to make a happy resolution.)

Ironic from a guy who likes opera, I know, but: GAY! I'll only watch 'em if coerced, and even if they have some small quirky appeal, I usually don't much care for them. In contrast though, while I don't like chick-flick(romantic) comedies, I do like chick-flick(romantic) dramas. Which I don't doubt you hate for all the same reasons. In a comedy you know everything's going to work out now matter the (often poorly) contrived conflict. In romantic dramas you want things to work out even though you know damn well somebody's going to die tragically.

Rented Inception yesterday on pay per view. Had it for 24 hours and just left it on the entire time I was home lol. Adore that movie.

Blade Runner Director's Cut.
Yeah that's right, I've never seen Blade Runner before. Don't give me that look. Now I have an urge to rewatch the original Bubblegum Crisis

I still haven't seen Blade Runner. I watched How to Train Your Dragon and loved it! I was thinking at first it wouldn't have enough fantasy for me, but I was wrong. It also has an amazing soundtrack.

Saw Exception, it was inceptional.
Also saw Dangerous Liasons finally. I've seen Cruel Intentions at least a dozen times, but never got around to seeing the source material til now. Gotta say: Glenn Close < < < Sara Michelle Gellar. Michelle Pfeifer < Reese Witherspoon.
See the first few minutes of Twilight (not the vampire one). . .

Saw Tron Legacy on Friday. Soundtrack was amazing, it was worth one watch through, but it'll never be timeless like the original and I have no urge to see it again for a while
ps. it was my first movie in 3D. What a pointless gimmick. 3D brought nothing to the movie that would make you feel like you were missing out watching it in 2D. It was a novelty when it worked and glaring when it didn't. Not too mention that it doesn't play well with classic concepts like focus, lens flares, and reflections

Saw Voyage of the Dawn Treader. I know the Narnia series is loaded with Christian undertones, but oh man were they blatant this time around. I still love the series either way just for being good fantasy fun, but Aslan's "I go by another name in your world" was pretty 'lol subtlety.' Anyways, no harm meant by that, just observation.
Gotta give props to the kid who played Eustace, too. Played a perfectly detestable little snot that you learned to like by the end of things.

Inception: First time seeing it. Amazingly complex. The characters get virtually no development, which is kind of a shame, but the story and concept are strong enough to make up for it. Overall, pretty good stuff! But I liked Paprika better. I really liked Inception, but it bugged me that the dreamscapes were, for the most part, too normal. I haven't watched Paprika yet (I plan to in a week or two), but I'm pretty sure it doesn't have that problem. Anyway, I watched two movies over the weekend. One was the original Back to the Future, which I hadn't seen in ages, and which I probably don't need to describe. Pretty fun movie! The other was (500) Days of Summer. I pretty much never watch romance movies (and only watched this one by the suggestion of my friend), so I don't know if I can describe it very well, and I don't really have a frame of reference for how it compares to other movies of its genre, but I liked it a lot. It's about the ups and downs of a relationship, told stream of consciousness-style. Quirky in several ways, but the main characters are normal enough to be absolutely relatable. Here, have a trailer (though it emphasizes the goofy and quirky parts over the parts that actually make it an emotional movie): And... maybe I should know better than to do this, considering how my list of movies to see is already swelling, but since (like I said) I'm not really familiar with romance movies at all, and seeing a good one has actually piqued my interest in the genre... anyone have any suggestions for good romance movies? (Ideally, ones told from a guy's perspective, since the whole "hetero male" thing I have going makes them easier for me to relate to, but if it's genuinely, really good then I'm not going to be too picky.) (Strange that I'm curious about this while I'm still sick of love songs... but, really, that has to do with the percentage of songs that are about love and relationships more than anything else. Seriously, that's why my music collection has so much instrumental music, I think -- a ton of music with no lyrics is less repetitive than a ton of music with lyrics about the same thing. >_>)

Sure, those are fine I already had "Just Like Heaven" on my list from seeing you talk about it, but I've added "When in Rome", too. Thanks!

Did anyone see True Grit? I have a secret fondness for cowboy movies and this was a pretty good one.

I'm gonna be seeing it soon, possibly tomorrow. The Coen brothers are superior, maybe not to Daleks, but y'know. Pretty damn good.
