I am MOST interested in learning about this party system. In the scans, it seems like only Adol is attacking? D: However, those seem like boss fights. (It'd be kind of funny if only HE could fight bosses. ^^;;;)
Has there been a lot of whining on 2ch and other Japanese boards in this sudden change in direction (re: the game is now Adol AND his merry band of friends instead of just Adol)?
I hope it uses the Zwei!! and Zwei II AI cuz that will mean party members are invincible. XD And if they DO take this route, I want a tag-along pet, dammit!

Thanks for all the translations of the scanned content Wyrdwad and Varion. It'll be fun piecing together what the game may be like, : )
And yeah, regarding graphics. They do look a little nicer in the second scanned Ys 7 article that was posted. They kind of look similar to how Suikoden III/V character models looked, which isn't all that bad really. It is definitely a new look from the chibi-sized ones that we've had so much fun mowing stuff down with over the years.
I will say that I'm growing more excited about this the more I see if of it. : )
As for Chronicles, it's great that it is a faithful port of Ys I & II complete, but I'd really like to know if they plan on including the new area that was in Ys I & II DS. I really think they should and I'd love to see a non-3D version of it.

General opinion is that it looks extremely shabby, the artist sucks and looks like bad fanart, and they're clearly targetting it at schoolchildren now. Can't blame them, really. I'm looking forward to it less and less the more I see of it - about the only good things are looking to be the setting and music.

SkyeWelse: That new area served little purpose in my opinion. I mean, it's basically a hole in the ground with trees growing in it but even then it could have been made interesting if the designers had actually cared. But it looks bad, the layout makes no sense what so ever considering what the location is supposed to be and the extra set of gear adds nothing to the game (especially considering you already have the silver shield by that point). They could have done something interesting with it by adding some sort of cut scene after the boss fight. I mean, Sara supposedly goes there to find a book of Ys if I'm not mistaken. How about actually letting the player turn up to see Sara get murdered by Dark Fact? There's so many things they could have done to make it worthwhile. As it stands, it's just a poorly designed excuse to claim you've added something to the game.
All things said. I wouldn't mind seeing Falcom spice things up a little with some extra side quests, bosses or even dungeons. But they should definitely stay away from that poor excuse of an extra area.

It looked pretty boring though, so as far as I'm concerned no real loss.

I didn't think the extra area was all that bad actually. True that it should have tied in more with Sarah since she supposedly goes there, but as far as the layout was concerned I actually rather enjoyed it. It felt like a nice hedge maze. : )
And I didn't really see it as just some hole in the ground, but rather the ruins that exist inside the crater where Ys used to be. Personally I've always wondered what was inside the crater and I was thrilled to finally be given a chance to explore it!

I hope Ys SEVEN gets to have many difficulty settings just like YsF. And well, with these bigger scans, it seems I was wrong about the models. xD They still look like they would go really well on a PSP screen though. The story seems interesting, but that addition of 5 new races is pretty lame to me. From Ys I to V, it was all about Humans and Winged Ones... then they added the Rehda in Ys VI (which was very well done), but now they add 5 more races all of a sudden?! We will be seeing lots of dwarves and elves just like Ys II Special. Well, I hope they do it better in the game itself... Also, longest Ys game so far? No way! Ys II Special was one billion times bigger than any Ys game, and also both Ys IVs and Ys V seemed bigger to me than YsVI, YsF and YsO, and than what they seem to be claiming Ys SEVEN will be. About Ys I & II Chronicles: PSP fanart = lollicon xD And seriously, another straight port... >_____> The music part was interesting though. But lacking the PCE arrangements is sinful.

Takes place after VI, huh? I wonder what excuse they'll find to separate Terra from Adol considering I fully expected her to cling to him like a limpet until he either got a clue or gave her the brush-off. Regarding the new area in the DS port, I loathed it. First, it's a boring area from a gameplay standpoint. Second, it does absolutely nothing to the story (soylent hit the nail on the head). Third, the levels you get there make the mines too easy and the new equipmnent makes the first half of Darm too easy. I won't be sad to see it go. Then again, since Falcom evidently wants to do a 3d remake of I-II eventually we might see a good version of that area in the future. For now I'm happy that they decided to stick with making a new game. They can remake I-II for an anniversary year or something. Anyhow, thus far this looks spectacular. Genuine party mechanics, additional depth to the combat system, sweet looking boss. I don't really mind the art style; Ys was great long before flashy graphics were even a possibility. If the option to ditch your party members is available it'll let people who want Adol-only gameplay, not to mention increase the challenge factor. We'll see if they allow that. Right now only three things concern me. First, people are still griping about the graphics and the fact that it's on PSP. I'd rather like to see this game do well so Falcom can make more games. Second, the map feature. I hope that can be turned off since I enjoy the process of getting lost. Third, 'Firends'? ;-) Also, longest Ys game so far? No way! Ys II Special was one billion times bigger than any Ys game, and also both Ys IVs and Ys V seemed bigger to me than YsVI, YsF and YsO, and than what they seem to be claiming Ys SEVEN will be. You actually got that to run long enough to find out? Lucky. How long does it take to beat, roughly? In any case, if this game really is the longest Ys to date I'll be a very happy gamer. They've been teasing us with Altago's story since Eternal first came out so it stands to reason they want to make it good.

Well generally you support a company because they're making games you enjoy and want to play, and you want them to make more, yeah? So what about when they stop doing that, are you supposed to still want to see the game do well just because? This came up back when Origin was released and people were bashing it but is worth mentioning again here - most of what I've loved about Ys recently has been the gameplay. I love Felghana and Origin to pieces, especially the bosses - the tension brought on through no item usage, the scale of them compared to you created by the engine, and the difficulty level. More than the world itself, which was mostly lacking in Origin, what draws me in most is the gameplay... and honestly, 7 so far is looking nothing like that. It looks like any old handheld party action game now. Then of course there's the fact it's on a handheld, which I don't have much love for in the first place, and my excitement's pretty low. Of course, I'd love to be wrong. Really, really love to be wrong. I'll be buying it anyway even if only for the soundtrack, and it'll be fun to explore the setting at least, but...

If it is, well, Ys II Special doens't register your gameplay time, but I've certainly spent more than 15 hours to thoroughly play through 1/4 or less of the game (which is where I stopped). The game is absurdly long and has many, many secrets, and EXTREMELY obscure ones for that matter. The dungeons are insanely long too. The first one had about 10 floors, the second one had 30 long floors (!!)... and I heard later there are even 60 and 100-floored dungeons... not to mention Solomon Shrine in the end. @_@ I really fear how long is the Solomon Shrine from that game.

I meant Ys II Special, thought it was reasonably clear from the context but whatever. Gotta try to get that running again if getting a quarter or so of the way through the game took you as long as it takes to completely beat any other Ys game. Pity I can't understand a word of Korean since anything that long has got to have an interesting story to go with it.

Lord have mercy I'm not sure what to think. On one hand, woohoo, new Ys game! We even get to tie up the loose plot thread of the five dragons. But I was somewhat hoping Adol would continue going west, beyond Canaan. I mean, supposedly that's where all the Eldeen are. That could have made for some really excellent "back to roots" storyline. Ah well, maybe another game. But what I don't care for is that it's on the PSP. This is primarily an issue of not having the system, though, and I really can't justify blowing the cash on buying one. I suppose eventually we may see a PC version, but I'm gonna feel a little left out in the meanwhile at the very least. Character artstyle is fairly bleh, but beyond that it looks decent. I enjoyed the days of 2D sprites, though, so I'll miss 'em. We'll just have to see what comes of all this.

Pity I can't understand a word of Korean since anything that long has got to have an interesting story to go with it. Yeah, not knowing Korean makes it literaly nearly impossible to go through this game all by yourself. Everyone from ALoY who played it stickied together in the "Ys II Special" thread to aid each other, and thanks to some korean members and some korean guides, you can get enough information from that thread to be able to beat the game. (And if you get stuck, you can always ask people what must be done there.) If you're a game "completist" like myself, this game ought to give you a lot of headache. There are LOTS of secret rooms that are hidden behind walls and usually there's absolutely no hint at all for you to find them: the only way to find them all is by always walking against ALL the walls from the whole game. xDDD Since I don't want other people to go through the same pain I am, I was taking screenshots of every one of these locations... Anyway, sorry that I got carried away. xD Ys II Special is so... special! Well, I guess next time I talk about it, it will be in its own topic. Oh, one more thing. By the way, I wonder what's with the FE6 characters rip-offs. xD Aisha = Lalum Tia = Lilina They're CLONES. o__o Argh. I want these games. Ys I, II, VI and VII in something I can carry over anywhere. By the way adoru (and for all of those who also don't have a PSP)... I remember when I decided to buy a PSP... it was on September 2007. And you know when I finally managed to buy one? August 2008. xD It sure was a long, looooong wait, but... it was worth it. Really, really worth it. For what you get, the PSP is incredible. And now there'll be Ys I & II and VII.

What makes those hidden areas and items even worse is that many of them do not have any functions at all. As much as Ys II is special, playing it is asking for whole new level of pain even with the knowledge of Korean. Only recommended for masochists.

Does want! Now to sell my soul for a PSP...DAMN YOU WYRD! But... but I thought you were with me on this one ;_; All alone ;_; Varion: Do you honestly think Falcom will let its fans down in the boss department? NO WAY!! There hasn't been an Ys game yet without spectacular bosses, and there never will be. Fear not... the bosses in Ys 7 will be awesome. -Tom Up until last week I'd have thought Falcom would never let its fans down at all ;p

We seriously need a trailer! Screenshots rarely or never do bosses any justice and this is especially true in the case of Ys. So I'd hold of on the pessimism until we've at least seen them in motion.
