Be that as it may, I still can't imagine playing Gurumin with the D-pad. That would be insanely difficult, I'd think, and not very fun... I mean, half the moves in that game involve doing a spin on the analog pad, and I don't even see how that would be possible on a D-pad without seriously hurting your fingers... -Tom Well, I managed it. I think I just avoided those moves whenever possible. It doesn't look like Ys 7 will need any spins anyway, so that makes it a bit easier. If it doesn't offer D-Pad support I doubt I'll honestly be able to play it much as, despite my constant criticism, I do want to. I just can't comfortably use the nub - I tried playing on Gurumin the other day, attempting to force myself to use it, but it just wasn't happening.

It's so weird to me that so many people hate the PSP's nub so much. I seriously think it's the best version of the analog stick ever made... blows my mind that I seem to be the ONLY one who likes it. -Tom Well, to be honest, I don't think you're quite the only one anymore. You see, I have been playing Ys VI both on PSP and PS2 like crazy almost everyday for a month (and I'm still playing). There are some crazy-y moves in Ys VI here and there, and they require very precise controls. I was surprised to find out PSP's analog stick worked out a lot better than PS2's for such precise movements. I'm still amazed, actually. I mean, when I first purchased my PSP and played a game, I was just like Varion, forcing myself to use it, but couldn't. I think, Varion, that you may still like that analog stick sometime in the future if you give it some occasional tries whenever you play a PSP game, especially if it has 3D environment. At least to like it enough to use it instead of the D-Pad.

Hm, well, it can't hurt to try! Guess I'll do some Gurumin playing (I don't have Ys 6) on my future train journeys and try using it repeatedly. Brandish feels like the kind of game that would be better with the d-pad anyway so that's not likely to work.

...Yeah, there's also that. Forgot about that somehow, heh. Not that I would've used it anyway.

I can't imagine you beating Gurumin's hidden optional boss like that. D: Infact, you NEED to pull off a spin attack to dodge his super powerful black hole supernova move thing. XD

Well, I never did beat him! And if I did I'd probably do it on the PC version now anyway

I don't HATE the nub, but I do dislike one particular fault that is absolutely nonstop: during PSX games, there are "failzones" -- the nub fails to respond in diagonal-most ranges, without excess (almost PSP-breaking) pressure applied. This is perhaps due to the lack of software sensitivity, I haven't yet tried a deadzone hack.

I feel that the problem is that you can't half directional input very well in the PSP due to the nub size and positioning.

Yeah, it's still a 1000 series -- and I really cannot afford a 3000 yet. I want one, but eh... business first. I gotta hold off. Besides, I only got something like $13 left. XD

Geis looks like he's wearing a fur cape. :-/ Or a bedsheet which has been ravaged by a camel. How is that different from how his cape is in Ys VI? :o He ran into a camel pre-Ark of Napishtim? :O :'D Actually, I think I was way too busy trying to kick his rear end to the moon in Ys VI to really... observe his fashion sense. :P It's so weird to me that so many people hate the PSP's nub so much. I seriously think it's the best version of the analog stick ever made... blows my mind that I seem to be the ONLY one who likes it. (: -Tom By the way, I'm actually quite fond of that little nub/analog stick that the PSP has. I mean... it works quite well? And I've never really felt that its a flimsy little thing, like most people declare it to be, and think that it'll just break off? But all this discussion just reminded me - while playing Ys VI, and very happily butchering the poor monsters, I remember I used to get so involved in playing and everything that.... the silly nub sometimes gave me an electric shock? O___o Has that ever happened to anyone else too?

Electric shocks? xD Well, it never happened to me while playing anything.
But I know that each individual has static electricity within, and each individual has it in different amounts. I.e. that's why some people manage to "fry" keyboards and computers, as well as getting an electric shock when touching metalic door knobs since their static electricity level is so high. You can discharge it though by touching any sort of metal. That's also why people use special wrists and carpet when peddling with computer components.
I heard once that there was a certain woman who worked in an IT company of sorts and she managed to "fry" 5 or so PCs due to her static electricity level. She was later nicknamed "Super Shock". xDD

After seeing those screens I like the artwork less and less. If there is indeed a PC version coming in the future, I hope that they pay a new artist to do some serious revisions because I find the character art in the PSP version to be a huge turn off.
I will say that I quite like the graphical quality of game. Unlike another handheld I won't mention, the PSP can actually do 3D that doesn't look like ass.

Don't know if anyone's mentioned this... I'm not too happy with the new artwork for Ys VII! [And Ys Chronicles for that matter...] (at least when compared to the other games..) But, Chronicles is doing the chooseable artwork, PSP version or PC version right? So... (see where I'm going?) Then probably Ys VII will feature the PSP version artwork... (...) And then the PC remake (it's official right? or is it?) Could have all-new PC version artwork... (Like we're used to!) Sounds at least plausible, thanks to what they are doing with Chronicles

I doubt that'll happen, though. They wouldn't go to all the trouble of getting official art drawn for a game, just to replace it with new art a year later. No joke. -ud

I wouldn't worry about all the artwork jazz for a while. PSP artwork doesn't equal PC artwork. Worry when it does look bad, not when it doesn't even exist.
