I was surfing around on the net today and found a DOS make of Ys. It is Ys II Special, loosely based on the Ys II anime "Castle in the Heavens."
Aside from the original Ys II songs, composed by Yuzo Koshiro - this game includes several exclusive tracks composed by SoundTEmP.
I tried taking screenshots of the game inside of the program and cant seem to. If I am successfull then I will post.
Development of Ys II Special started in 1992, and the original plan was to include a full voice over, but due to lack of resources and storage - the idea was canned.
This game was also included on the cd-rom for a Korean PC gaming magazine in 1999.

Also, some things you stated aren't quite accurate. xD - It isn't based ONLY in the Ys II anime, but it also is heavily based in the Ys II game itself. They mixed both and also added tons of original elements; - There IS a fully voiced over version of Ys II Special. FM-77 relatively recently found that out, but the problem is that it's really difficult to find it. All of that and much, MUCH more can be found in the thread "Wanderer from Ys" posted above. Walkthroughs, screenshots revealing secrets and even parts of the walkthrough at times, the game's soundtrack for download, maybe even the game itself for download, where to get some of the top-secret items and much more. (By the way, if you are using DOSBox, you can use the PrintScreen function for taking screenshots, but that only works in Window Mode, not Full Screen.)
