Well, I'm finally done! The technical nature of the article may put some of you off, but for you tinkerers, you may enjoy it! -ud

nice pricing, but if you truly want to save space. get one of these: the New ASUS EEE Box B204 or B206 with HDMI and Win XP. more than capable of playing Falcom games. for about 400USD. the B206 also has Bluetooth out of the eh... box seriously thinking about buying one of these to replace my PC. don't do anything more graphically violent than watch movies and play falcom games

Sure, it'll play Falcom games, as Falcom keeps the bare minimum specs. quite low, but as far as running everything smoothly at maximum settings is highly unlikely. The Asus EEE B206 has a Radeon HD 3450 graphics chipset. Check out the Nvidia 9500 GT (YsBox card) vs the Radeon HD 3450. Apples and Oranges, my friend. I will give you that it's uber small, that's for smokin' sure! -ud

true that, then again. if you use it as a console, your HDTV supports up to 1920x1080 (1080P) resolutions. no need for max settings in resolution
nice of those boxes is that you can screw them to the back of most LCD screens, those with the 4 screw holes for the wall mount.

That's a really cool idea. Very inspiring, and very nicely done! Thanks! Glad you like it! It was quite a process getting there (many computers/components), but I'm pleased overall with the outcome. then again. if you use it as a console, your HDTV supports up to 1920x1080 (1080P) resolutions. no need for max settings in resolution Not sure I follow (I understand that 1920x1080 is 1080P) If you are implying that just because a computer can support 1080p that it will perform wonderfully at said resolution, I disagree (based on lots of experimenting/experience with that exact topic). -ud

Nice setup Undamned! Though, I think you should take your idea even further for the purpose of taking a great photograph! : ) Why not (at least temporarily) cover the Dell to make it look like a Book of Ys and around the monitor you can place an Ys-like border. That would make it the "Ultimate Ys Box Experience". I did something like this before with a NES to make it a type of "Zelda Box" if you will: -Thomas

Hehe, well, it was the "Golden Years" for many gamers, that's for sure!
But yeah, you get the idea. Though I woudn't suggest permanently painting your hardware. The compact Dells look too nice. : )

You're still missing Ys 6 there. Then your Ys Box will be complete.

That is really really awesome I use an Aspire One from Asus to play the Ys games on the go (i have an intolerably huge commute otherwise) and I'm tempted to make it into a "Netbook of Ys" Probably just somehow put the Ys logo on the top, but it could be a cute thing to do.

You're still missing Ys 6 there. Then your Ys Box will be complete. I wasn't too motivated to pick that one up. Played through 98% of it on the PS2 and it felt kinda soulless. Maybe I'll pick up the PC ver. on the cheap one of these days... That'd be great! You could turn it into a leatherbound book of Ys! -ud

Yeah Ys 6 PC was the first Ys to be released in so many years after Ys 1 and 2. How can that be soulless? It's awesome, without Ys 6, there wouldn't be Oath and Origin.

Very nice job with "the Box"! I like to hook up my laptop to my HDTV sometimes and play my Ys on there, although there is sometimes a wee bit of stutter with the refresh rate, but no biggie. Your YsBox even LOOKS nice next all the games themselves. Again, nice job!

Ys VI felt awesome whilst playing it. But the ending . . . The ending was a huuuuge let down. I can't believe THAT was supposed to be a final boss. And which book of Ys would a netbook best suit? Perhaps the collected works of Ys and other stories!

If the boss before the final boss had been a little more difficult (I juggled it to submission - maybe I need to replay hard mode...) then I might have just seen the awesomeness in the final boss . . .
Honestly, it did have epic scope, but victory over something epic is minimal if you don't feel threatened.

Most would agree that part of being epic is difficulty, I think. If a boss is easy, then it doesn't really feel like they were the threat that the plot was making them out to be. Also it helps if the were a significant part of the plot as a whole, as opposed to Necroning out of nowhere. But that is another debate altogether, I think.

I didn't much care for the FInal Boss of Ys VI either at first. It was alright I suppose, but it was hard to really care about it since there didn't seem to be as much of a built up confrontation. However, I actually like it more now after having played the English version of Oath in Felghana, because there is a small, but notable reference to the final boss of Ys VI, which was all too cool in my book. : )

It was definitely exciting Maybe after I boss rush it on nightmare a couple times I'll respect it even more! I don't mind an out of nowhere boss that much, to me it just has to feel like I could have lost were I not an awesome player with a thumb that wont quit. That said, Necron was a horrible idea and they should feel bad. Zeromus forever! Maybe he and Darm could form a "defeated embodyment of evil" club. Maybe a band.

Yeah the whole Zeromus reference to Necron still didn't make it any cooler, just worse in my opinion. There is however another final boss of an rpg that I feel deserves the ultimate spotlight of shame in terms of "Why the hell is this thing the final boss!?"
And that'd be the final boss of Granstream Saga. : )
