So, I just finished playing through Ark, and sitting back a lot of things start to come together.
Sadly, I don't speak japanese, so playing Mask of the Sun I used a patch I found on a rom online. I'm strongly of the mind that if I could buy it in English I would, but I don't have the money for a SFC or for an imported rare game, then to read a script as I go.
Anyway, at one point it mentions the Eldeel, winged ones, whatever their proper name is, kept humans as/for food. While the thought of using humans for spiritual worship or slaves seems rather supported (Feena and Reah don't seem to have problems with being goddesses, even if Feena prefers not to be remembered that way) but the mention of EATING humans only occurred in an english patch of Mask.
So, I just had to ask - is this a bad translation, is this something dropped wayside due to outside development, or . . . thoughts?

I suspect it's background fluff.
I also get the feeling if they meant in in a cannibalistic sense, Feena and Reah (and wossname, Alma if she was still around?) probably didn't dig on the concept, and left as a result
It's, I suspect, not something they always did, but rather a sign of decadence and contempt that the winged people had developed toward the end of their empire. In particular, given the Greco-Roman style that tends to be attributed to them, I get the feeling that it was a thing sorta similar to the infamous Roman feasts, with the crazy meats and purgings and suchlike.
As for accuracy? Deuce probably got it right. And I assume the patch before Deuce's got it right.
Personally? I wanna know where Lefanse came from. Given it was explicitly stated he came from elsewhere, and he was a bad enough dude to take the winged peoples out.
