Going through the game, I noticed that, aside from solving puzzles, the fire spell was way useless.. For damage, you just needed to use wind, and you could hit for way more damage. And then the earth spell nullified damage and killed the rock monsters that appeared from the ground. Was there any use besides puzzles for fire spells?

Galbalan!
Protecting the kid whose name I forget from the flowers when you escort him back to Valestein. Killing them long range was the safer bet.

Long ranged attacks. Safe way of attacking in General that also saves MP for certain situations.
Try playing this game on Inferno without using the Fire Magic to see better what I mean...

It's actually very powerful if you know how to make use of it. One of my comrades discovered a way to chain the fireball attack with another sword tech. This usually works well for stationary enemies. Battling Zirduros in nightmare mode (my video): www.youtube.com/watch?v=NpX-FsDkKt8

For regular enemies spamming wind works most of the time, but fire is awesome against bosses. Particularly the ones that you have chase around, or move around quickly. You can't even hit the final boss without fire.
None of them are useless, but IMO Wind>>>>>Fire>>>>Earth

I found myself using the Earth magic alot more than I was led on. I certainly don't know how to use fire to the awesome ability Blackbean displayed in his video, but for that fight, for example, I found the Earth magic a godsend. Charge that up and dash along his backside for massive damage and shield powers!
Aside from the two times I mentioned I don't think I used the fire magic much at all. Well, that and the first boss where it's all you can do to hurt the thing. That video certainly makes me wonder what I missed out on though, haha.

I knew one could cancel attacking animations with the magic, but that's impressive. Especially when canceling the downward thrust: not only it is laggy after landing, but even though the lag is canceled, the enemy keeps receiving its multiple hits even though the attack is "gone". Also yay for LoM music. xD

Ooh, nice. You uploaded that just yesterday. Fresh video. Anyway, yeah, that technique is very useful. I wonder why I never thought of using it against bosses before... I guess it's probably due to my defensive way of fighting them and thus sticking with the Earth Magic (read: unproper for Boss Rushes, as the name implies. xD). Anyway, cool battle. xD You did really well. Unfortunately this boss does get pushed off sometimes, so you weren't allowed to exploit him with the technique as much as the previous one, but it still worked very significantly. Hmhm! I'm feeling motivated. xD

Zirduros Time Attack (Nightmare) www.youtube.com/watch?v=IBSA0O6gK38Improved version of the previous video (19.250 sec). The video demonstrates the potential of the fireball spell better. EDIT: This one is from Ys Origin, but the Adol from YsF can be used in time attack battles. Particularly fighting Pictimos, where the firespell chained with a sword tech is also extremely effective: Pictimos www.youtube.com/watch?v=zXBWLlRh9QA
