I used Nightwolve's config patch, and I believe that installs the latest patch, also I'm running windows XP.

You were right on about the text problem. Installed the files, and it works fine. Interesting, since the title screen is in English anyway.
I have another problem. The Mask of Eyes turns my entire screen black, and I don't seem to be able to turn off the effects.

Oh, that... I think I heard this is a bug Falcom noticed later and launched some patch that fixed the issue (or maybe a patch that added an option to disable something that could cause it).

The newer patches do allow me to disable the Mask of Eyes effects, but I can't tell if it works in game or not, because the new patches ask for the CD to be in the drive. I'm trying to see how well the game will run on PC before I buy it. I guess the main issue is still the servere slowdown. The first room is still a bit choppy at 640x480, but anything higher and it slows down to like 4 FPS.

If you create a virtual drive using the .ISO with DAEMON Tools, it will do the job. As for the slowdowns, I have no idea. xD

Yeah I've done that. I had to do it just to install. But anything higher than the unpatched game just goes to the title screen and shows a picture of CD loading. Oh well.
