For the same reason (or, more accurately, kind of an opposite reason) people here often drink black coffee. It's a habitual thing, and it helps wake them up. Earl Grey tea is probably a habitual thing for Captain Picard, and it probably helps relax him. Konami's not "picking it up"... Castlevania has always been Konami. They've just given it to a different team. -Tom Yes, I drink coffee in the morning, but my stomach really can't handle much else, and I need to wake up. As a matter of fact, if I eat anything more, and sometimes even just that, I vomit in the morning! O: Oh, what I meant was that it was originally just Lords of Shadow, not by Konami. They've bought the rights or however that works, and are now making it a Castlevania game. Thus, they've picked it up, have they not?

Lords of Shadow was in development beforehand, but Konami decided they wanted a next-gen Castlevania so they managed to slap the Castlevania title onto it. Now, they've got Patrick Stewart, and Kojima involved, so this seems cool.
When people first said "Kojima" I thought they were referring to Ayame. To be honest I was a bit disappointed, even though I'm a HUGE Kojima fan!

So they're tossing out all the old canon? Well that's pretty goddamn lazy and shitty. =| I'm pretty sure they tossed out 3 games already due to the convoluted timeline. This is going back a few years, so I can't remember which ones. I have to look into it.

Ok, Castlevania Legends, Castlevania 64, Legacy of Darkness, and Circle of the Moon were all thrown out of the official timeline, and they are considered non-canon.

There's a FAQ in GameFAQs that tells all about it. you can find it in the FAQ section of any of the Castlevania games.
According to it, some of the excuses were really lame, in my opinion. Like, I recall that "Castlevania Legends" wasn't considered canon because "no woman can be a Belmont", especially the first Belmont. (Back then, Lament of Innocence wasn't released yet, and was the earliest in the timeline.)
I used to be one HELL of a Castlevania fan, but I eventually grew tired of it and thought it was becmoing lame-ish, with all that crazy milking. Before it was said "Dracula always reappers once in every 100 years", but they released so many games that now he resurrects, like, every year. xD That's what's sad about Gaming COMPANIES. Doujinshi for the win. (That's why Tsukihime & stuff is so good, Cap'n =[) Companies MAY make just as good games, but a Company will always priorize money over anything else if need be, and that nearly always happens at some point.

My knowledge was a bit out of date. It looks like they retconned, the retcon. Only Legends is now considered non-canon, and it will probably stay that way because it would conflict with the timelne otherwise. castlevania.wikia.com/wiki/Castlevania_TimelineIn 2002, just before the release of Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance, Konami posted a chronology of the Castlevania series on the official Japanese Harmony website. [1] The list conspicuously omitted several games in the series, including: Castlevania Legends, Castlevania: Circle of the Moon, Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness, and Castlevania 64. The release of Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin confirmed Castlevania: Legends's removal from the timeline by showing that Dracula did not begin his war with humanity until shortly before his fight with Trevor Belmont. The release of Portrait of Ruin, however, re-instated Circle of the Moon, Legacy of Darkness, and Castlevania 64 and the theme of why the Belmonts "proper" were absent during these games is focussed on. The official timeline released with this game now includes these games, but it still does not include Legends. One reason why these games were reinstated may be because many of the team members who worked on those games also worked on Portrait of Ruin (they hadn't worked on Lament of Innocence). In the fan community, there has been much debate over the changes, why they occurred, and how they have affected the series. Fans speculate that the changes were made in order to "clean up" the timeline by removing new games whose stories/placement in the timeline conflicted with the older games (an example being the continuity problem between Legends and Castlevania III). Konami of America recognized the four games current series producer Koji Igarashi removed until November 2005, when they released the Castlevania Xtreme Desktop Timeline (based on the revised Japanese timeline). Konami of America may still have acknowledged Circle of the Moon; their newer timeline mentioned Morris Baldwin in passing and the game was still available for purchase at the company's online store. Since the release of Portrait of Ruin, only Legends is non-canon.

What's "Lords of Shadow"? Is that a separate IP that they're combining with Castlevania? I thought it was just a subtitle, like "Harmony of Dissonance" or "Circle of the Moon"... -Tom Last year, there was a trailer for a game called Lords of Shadow, which looked slightly Castlevaniash, but didn't include the CV name, also there was a trailer for a new CV game by Iga featuring Alucard. IIRC, he had what looked like a sword made out of blood.

"Sword made out of blood"? I like the sound of that, and have once seen people featuring such a thing only in Tsukihime (game only) so far, but I bet such idea was used elsewhere for ages. It's really kickass.

Indeed, he's one of the better voice actors out there~!
When Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny did their stint on The Simpsons, I cringed. ;___; They didn't sound very good at all. :(
Another awesome actor is James Woods. Damn his Hades (in KH2. Never saw Hercules) was awesome!! *___*

Any serious Castlevania fans play this yet? I have a copy in shrink-wrap that I'm scared to even start up.
Here's the problem: I LOVE Castlevania. Yes, the 3D games have mostly been bad - although I have a few oddball opinions on those - but I adore the 2D series. The classics, yes, and even moreso the "Metroidvania" games. My favorites are probably Super Castlevania IV (for classic style) and Dawn of Sorrow (for Metroidvania style).
Throwing out the existing timeline and doing a reboot that's a copy of... God of War, a series I REALLY don't like... makes me nervous.
And yet, I love Castlevania. For its music, its gameplay... and this game got good reviews, so... yeah...

It isn't Castlevania. It will never be Castlevania. Forget that Castlevania is even in the title. But that said I love the music and aesthetic to Lords of Shadow. ...but I'm not fond of the gameplay (especially the fixed camera view and how everything blends into the lush backdrops) though that's from me preferring 2D gameplay over 3D most of the time
Give it a play as a game, but not as a Castlevania game.

Play it for Patrick Stewart.
(That should be the only reason to play LoS.)
