Sigh. There's already a few folks on the FB Ys page complaining about the bump system. :(
Them younguns, I tell you ... *shakes head*

VI is the only one I think even looks passable on SNES (thus the only rom I have of the three).
28. Don't like the bump system.

As for why you should play the DS versions... well, they're all in English, unlike the SNES version (unless there are patches I'm unaware of) Well, IV was released officially for the NES, but I find the DS version to be very well-polished. The only kick in the balls is that they cut out the party talk (damn you, SE). DQIV is my favorite DQ game, so I love it regardless. DQV has a patch, and it's pretty good, but the DS version has some extra bonus stuff (including a third potential girl to hook up with!). I also find the DS version's graphics to be far superior to the SNES versions... which are pretty simplistic. Also the DS version is officially in English, so yay. There's also a PS2 version of DQV, and there is a fan translation of it, but I honestly haven't played it so I have no comments. From what I hear it's a lot like the DS version but it's missing some bonus features. Then there's DQVI. The SNES version was great--the graphics compared to V are really well-detailed, and even more so compared to VII on PSone (while IV-VI DS use the same engine, VII's graphics are fugly in comparison). There do exist fan translations of VI, but none of them are complete. The closest one covers the whole story, but there's still a lot of untranslated text, and even the translated work seems a little bland. All-in-all I would say that the DS version is going to be worth it. As for me getting DQVI, I really want to. But I haven't even beaten IX yet, so I think until I beat that I'm going to hold off on VI.

I can't wait to get this game!!
The only thing that should be done is getting an instant start of Ys 2 after completing Ys1....no closing credits until Ys2 is over with just like the Turbo Duo version. Then it would seem like one whole game. This is just an opinion though.
I also hope they dont give away where the Land of Ys disappeared to on the box art. I would feel bad for newbies. When I first played Ys Book 1 and 2, I had NO idea where the Land of Ys went until I finished Ys1.

Does anyone know if they will have voice overs like they did with Felgana?

Does anyone know if they will have voice overs like they did with Felgana? Nope. Chronicles was the first of the three recent Ys PSP games to come out, before Seven gave Falcom money to spare on nice extras like voice work. You get Boss Rush, the aforementioned three soundtracks and the optional Chronicles art style instead.

I just find it far, far inferior to the more traditional action/rpg battle systems. And a far cry from what Napishtim established. I can still enjoy it though (I managed MotS). One of the first games I plan to play in Japanese (Kaze no Densetsu Xanadu II), which I am greatly anticipating, uses the bump system (outside boss battles). But to elaborate, I won't be buying it at release. I still don't even own a PSP. :-[ --But when I do buy it, it'll be new, to support Variable SEED.

You will not regret playing Legend of Xanadu 2, such a great game! I like it better then the first one, but, it's also more gaijin friendly then the first one.

Nice video Wyrdwad! I wonder what made you choose Ruins of Moondoria. It's one that I like from the Chronicles OST, because it reminds me of the TG16 version.

If I may ask, in what way? I only played it a little, to enjoy the graphics (which I love) and to rub my face in just how crappy my Japanese is (since foregoing kanji study to focus on new vocab, I've managed to . . . forget. . . most of the 1200 kanji I actually knew. *facepalm* )
Anyway, I'm not too interested in the original from the vids I've seen, but Delicious Larva and Regis (who is an EXPERT) recommended it.

The first one has more backtracking and running around talking to visitors than all the Ys games combined. If you're not absolutely fluent in order to understand what you're supposed to do next, then you're bound to get lost. And for me I got a bit bored since I couldn't fully understand what was being said
