Honestly, I just don't want Adol touching Dogi's lips during the prison escape-scene. If you want to change "ouch" into something else (within reason) then whatever.
I do hope XSEED is taking great care with SnK's script, though.

Okay so I lied about my last comment being my last comment because you bring up two more points that slipped my mind while ranting: I see these minor divergences in the translation as a slippery slope where another lip touching incident can occur. Where an attempt to spice up the text causes the scene to take an extremely different interpretation. Also the main reason I'm so critical of the Ys translations so far has been SnK. I could care less about the Ys games since I have the PC versions of I&II & Felghana, and the Japanese version of SEVEN. I've just bought them to support XSEED. But SnK is the #1 RPG I've wanted to play in the past 5 years. I've purposely refrained from playing them until I can fully understand all the text.. which means either I'd have to be fluent in Japanese or wait until the games get translated. So now that the latter is happening, I just want the translation to be as faithful to the original as possible

I'm curious about this expletive deleted bug -- I've seen bugs like this where if you remove a line, EVERYTHING after is off in the game's script by a line, and everyone stops making sense. What I mean is, are you guys SURE that bug doesn't influence anything else in the game?

He's just hiding behind "wanderlust" as a reason to ditch the damsels he rescues and continue his ambiguous quest with his one true love. The games are riddled with ambiguity, you just have to read between the lines to see the truth!

But, ironically, I'm going to DEFEND (to an extent) the Wyrd One. What VariableSEED and Working Designs do and did to games is identical to the hollywooding of novels. The ostensible excuse is that it needs to be remarketed for a different market. . . but an underlying, typically unspoken rationale is that the person doing the remarketing sees the work as his/her "baby" as much as the original creator.
When a screenwriter adapts a book to film they don't just want to rewrite somebody else's work,(he/she is a writer too, after all) but to infuse their own creativity into it, and make it something their own. I honestly can't imagine the same thing NOT happening in a different medium.
Of course, it's a tendency I don't particularly care for, and I think pop culture references and such should only be used when there's one in the original (and likely not even then, considering it causes a game to age poorly--show MST3K and Peptobismol references in Working Designs games to somebody born AFTER 1990) BUT, what Wyrd is guilty of is something culturally rampant, and not at all specific to him.

Awwww I realized that after I said it, that Lance was probably well, more accurate. Are you going with Lastin, or Rastin? Reah or Leah or Lair? Or should I just shut up and wait till February? I swear you're putting it out just for my birthday.

The only real added dialogue content in that game, to my knowledge, are the empty treasure chest messages -- instead of just saying, "It's empty," they each say unique silly things now. -Tom Suddenly, Varion. Can you elaborate on this? So far I haven't had any reason not to trust Jess (there have been other dialogue changes that I know of, but I like them - Jess seems to have totally 'got' the characters from what I can tell) but this makes me a little... curious if nothing else. Of course if it's just something like Shining Force 3's wardrobes (Synbios inspected the wardrobe. Gasp! I saw something I should not have seen!) I don't care. But you know what I'm like when it comes to the Kiseki games otherwise!

As an aside, I've been motoring through English Sora like a madman all month (that's why I haven't been posting a whole lot!), and I can say that your assessment that Jess (and our translators) "get" the characters is QUITE accurate. Olivier and Estelle, in particular, are EXTREMELY well-written and hilarious. -Tom Definitely looking forward to playing it in English then. Olivier and Estelle make for some of the funniest exchanges in the Japanese as well (well, Olivier and just about anyone is funny to be honest, he's the most hilarious character in the series by a long shot) so it'll be fantastic if the translation successfully duplicates that. As for the translators, so long as no islands are stuck, we're good

Olivier in Ys vs SnK is the same VA as Kayama from Sakura Taisen That alone won me over
Normally I can't tell one Japanese voice from another, but I couldn't miss his singsong delivery in this case

I like how Kouyasu completely devoured the scenery every time he opened his mouth in Alt Saga. Pity Olivier and Lowe didn't get much of a chance to interact.

Goddammit I hope you realize how painful it is when you're the kind of person who thinks every voice actor sounds familiar but can never put their finger on it and tears their hair out when a voice sounds painfully familiar but unrecognizable.

Don't worry Wyrd, I love what you guys did with Ys, and I can't wait for I & II Chronicles.
I do have it pre-ordered for the hair metal pack, but it'll likely have to wait until Dragon Quest VI is done, that or when my DS needs charging I'll play Ys, and vice versa.

Hey does anyone know if the GameStop people were suppose to ask which item I wanted upon pre-ordering this game?? I did pre-order within the time period it said to, to get the "Hairmetal" pack. I'll be ticked if they were suppose to and they didn't and then i won't get my item.
BTW.....I want the Book (would be a good part of a collection)

Yep. To be specific, the bug is with fireballing Roos in general -- it no longer produces ANY text. They just sit there, and take it. No idea what happened to remove that text, but I ran through the entire game, and so did multiple members of an external QA house, and somehow... we all missed this until it was too late. Enough people played through the whole game from beginning to end, though, that we're quite certain no other text was broken as a result of this issue, so don't worry! -Tom I'm hardly an expert on this sort of thing, but wouldn't it be possible to later release a patch or something that could fix this bug? Or am I overestimating the PSP's capabilities?
