Hi, I'm running Vista and this game won't work. I double click it (or the config) and it doesn't display. the process runs in the background but I don't see or hear anything.
Any ideas?
Thanks

There is a patch that updates the limited edition. I just don't have the link right now, but it shouldn't be too hard to find. Maybe even in this forum, maybe in the translation thread.

Also, all versions can run in Vista, but the "Vista" version is just more "Vista friendly" I guess.
The problem is Vista. Which is the ultimate suckage, like its company.

Thanks for the responses. I don't know what version of the game this is.
Can I get a link from someone for that patch I might as well try it. I've tried searching for it myself but I can't find it.

I believe you can see which version you have by having the mouse icon above the game's .exe. That way, a box will pop-up and show a number like 1.0.0.0 or something (that number is the version).

Also, if it doesn't have mutiple difficulties and if you can't unlock time attack, it's version 1.0.0.0

Hi I can really state that every Ys VI version works fine on Vista OS. The last version ( 1305) so called "Vista compatible edition" is just a commercial move that Falcom did to state that only that version was compatible with Vista. BTW... the problem is caused simply because the game checks if the system is a japanese one or not and if it's not a japanese one it closes up. So..the trick is to use Applocale to make the game think it's runnin' under a japanese windows. The translation patch cancels this check and make the game run on every windows version. But..for what I've read you don't know wich game version you have so it's quite impossible for us to state which is the right translation patch you need. So..just do this way:
- uninstall the game if it's already installed.
- do a clear installation of the game without any update or translation patch applied
- once you installed the game just go to the game installation folder ( normaly is C:\FALCOM\YS6_WIN) and check the two main executables.
You will find a "ys6_win.exe" and a "ys6_win_dx9.exe". Just right click on them, go to properties and check the file version. After that post it here and I'll tell you what to do. Bye Bye

Applocale doesn't work correctly on Vista unless there is a new version You must change your language settings manually and reboot the pc. After, all your Japanese games will run fine

How do you change language settings on Vista? Actually, from what I've gathered, you have to buy separately the language pack for Vista (unless it was Vista Enterprise or a certain other Vista shit), right? '=_= Any Windows pre-Vista already came with it...
I miss my XP. ;_; I miss Falcom.

I haven't bought anything, I just changed the settings in the Control Panel like with XP. Maybe it's like that for the European version of Vista... I don't know.

I miss my XP. ;_; I miss Falcom. I take it ye don't have a copy of XP kicking around? If ye did, you can just dual boot. :o! I have that with my notebook that had Vista Home Premium pre-installed. Works like a charm. :D

Not here. The one I bought from Dell with Windows Vista Basic pre-installed only has english and portuguese as selectable languages and their settings.
Also, that's not a half-bad idea, nunuu! Hm. =o

Hm. =o You would have to install asian languages from the control panel first I think, under regional and language options. But yes, if you prefer XP, then that would be the more interesting option.

That's exactly what I'm saying the PC won'tlet me install. XD For free. =/ Actually, they have some language packages that are downloadable, but in the official microsoft site they ask me to purchase a CD/DVD with a given language I desire. I checked the list and noticed the ones I lack and that aren't ready for download are among the world's most used languages, japanese included.
But enough about this, I'm doing this the nunuu way.

How lame. I thought breaking up Vista like that was a horrible idea, seems they were even more petty about it than I knew.
I still have XP as a back-up boot for the very rare occasion something doesn't run properly on vista (So far just Call of Cthulu). So it is always nice to have options.

Uh, in case you haven't done it yet, Red, be aware that you won't be able to boot into Vista once you install XP. (And make sure you're installing on another partition~!) You'll need a separate program that will fix the boot record~ I'm not home right now but I'll get you the name of it when I get back. :D Well, that was awesome of me -- I forgot about this post. >_>! Anyway, the program is called BootPRO.

Ys VI standard or even Limited runs just fine on Vista with the English patch, just have to "run as administrator".
