Hasn't that been in pretty much every Ys game? lol

From what everyone's played so far, how are the dungeons? One of the biggest things I liked about the more recent Ys games was a very platform-y feel to them. Is there anything like this in Seven?

I've only had an hour to play the game and I've just gotten through the Cave of Beginnings (which isn't really a dungeon...) but unless there's more to come later, there's no platforming. The Jump command has been replaced by Dash. Also, the scene with Maya kicking the Dragoon in the shins? Epic moment of cuteness.

Hasn't that been in pretty much every Ys game? lol Not bars. Every Ys game before Ys VI, with the exceptions of Ys V, only did show how much EXP was left to gain a level in numbers, not bars. xD That feature was first seen in Ys VI. (As for Ys V, you can only see the remaining/total EXP by going to the Status Screen or something.)

There's no jumping, no. Just traditional small puzzles, items required to get into other areas (go underwater, ride winds, etc) both in the current dungeon and sometimes previous ones.

So, anyone know if there's a Time Attack mode? Unless I just totally forgot if it was mentioned before.

- As much as I hate to admit it... I do think this would be more enjoyable in high resolution. It looks FANTASTIC for the PSP, and I love that it's ON the PSP, meaning I can easily take it with me to work or on plane flights or what-not... but it's solely BECAUSE it looks so fantastic that I kinda wish I could see it in HD. There's a whole lot of subtle detail everywhere, and it's clear the game is VERY well-designed graphically... but because of the PSP's low resolution, a lot of that detail is hard to make out. Mwahaha. I don't think I can let this one go. You're right, though, I was really impressed seeing stuff like the ships leaving the harbour in the distance from the viewing point and stuff like that. There's loads of locations in the game that're going to look fantastic when they actually have a decent piece of hardware to work with and aren't covered in grain. In return for your honesty, I will confess that I have been playing everything so far using the analog nub and not the D-Pad. D-Pad feels incredibly rigid for this game, so I've somehow managed to get used to the nub. It still hurts, though. Actually, so do the buttons and I don't know why. They require a little more force to push than the buttons of a Dual Shock, I think, so when you're hammering them furiously in bosses it really starts to hurt after a while. Have to keep taking breaks during my all day playing sessions ;_;

Well, the resolution issue might be resolved with the multi-platform deal, though that largely depends on how much stuff from Seven they reuse and how much they do from scratch. Judging by the language used though I'd say it's probably likely that the other game(s) will relate to Seven in the same way Dawn of Ys is related to MotS.
Maybe the next game will so blow our minds that we forget the issue altogether. I know Seven is doing that for me right now.

Yeah, thankfully the combat is still action-based. I think they just took some overall concepts from MMORPGs, item crafting, they way skills level up, etc.
I hate MMORPGs but so far I like Ys Seven, so they can't be too similar haha.
Having said that I miss the jump button, I liked how in Napishtim, Felgana, and Origin at times it felt like you were playing a platformer.

I don't think I miss anything, really. I'm taking it all as it is and I'm simply blown away by this game. The dash button replacing jump adds a whole new element to battle, I think! Lots of stuff you can't dodge if you ignore it! And I actually *just* noticed the absence of a magic system (though I'm gonna assume Mishera uses magic whenever I get her), even though the skill system is obviously this games answer to that, and that doesn't bother me one bit either. Everything is perfect as it is. I can't remember the last time I anticipated a game this much... and had it exceed my expectations. I'm having TONS of fun, and it's wonderful. Not even 5 hours in and I wanna say "Game of the year."

I'm probably going to update to OFW within a few days if nothing happens from the CFW community that's trustworthy. I'm sure i could find a pandora somewhere around here to go back to CFW when I'm ready. As it stands all I'm playing right now is my Ys I and II chronicles UMD anyway. I want to play mana khemia but i have too much on my playlist to bother with it right now.
Also Dogi from irc here if I never did say who i was here.

Does Dogi gets to crush a wall somewhere in the game?

That's disappointing about the dungeons, since I thought the platformy-ness of Oath's made them the best in the series. That's probably something of a remnant of it being a remake of a side-scroller though, rather than an evolution of what they were intending the series to go with. Are they well designed, at least? Is there variety, or is it back to the Ys I and II style of 'wander around samey hallways forever until you stumble upon where to go'? Either way is fine(it's Ys after all) but hopefully they mix it up. Gah, why isn't my copy here yet

Ooh, okay. I didn't play Portable, but I've played Zero, and boy do I loves me some Phantasy Star Zero
I'll go ahead and assume it's similar. Is that fair?

Then why do I keep having these horrible nightmares about dash jumping in the Ruins of Amnesia in VI?

... oh god.
DO NOT MENTION DASH JUMPING EVER AGAIN OR I WILL MINCE YOUR FACE, CRUSH YOUR BALLS, AND RUN YOUR BODY THROUGH A MEAT GRINDER. D8
In other news: I'm actually getting really stressed out about being unable to play SEVEN. So much so that I'm tired as hell despite getting plenty of sleep, and am unable to concentrate on anything in school. I've also had dreams about it for like a week straight now. ;-;

I'm holding out for a PC version I think....
Though I hope it doesn't bite me and I miss out on bonuses.

I tried so hard, but in the end I couldn't resist the urge to order a copy even though I hardly understand any Japanese. The combat just looks too damn fun and I'm in desperate need of another Ys-fix. I just hope the synthesising isn't to much of a hassle. Anyway, for now the ripped soundtrack will have to suffice. Loving the boss battle themes!!! ^^ BTW.. any word on a soundtrack release?
