No, I couldn't figure that one out. I should have paid more attention to one of the general rules of thumb for mystery: Whoever looks like the most innocent / irrelevant at the beginning is most likely to be the murderer. And since the nurse Takano gets killed first in every loop (except for ones where she fakes her death), well you could see the connection with that. I am pretty sure nobody can pick up all the foreshadowing on who the true mastermind is unless he or she knows it beforehand. It's one of those anime that only make sense once you watch it all. Speaking of Higurashi, it is a great series but I still wish it focused more on mental scariness than gore. All that gore and creepy children became rather boring by the middle of the first season.

Nah, I wasn't exactly bored; the story and characters were interesting enough to keep me going but that gore and creepy stuff got old rather quickly. I didn't get scared by them first time anyway and actually laughed during some of those violent points - sometimes I get scared of what I can laugh at XD.

Ah, I see. That makes them more tolerable, then. I am not sure I agree with the notion that Tia is similar to Alba (A.K.A. Weissman) from Sora no Kiseki, though. Alba was much easier to guess even without any hints. In RPGs, an archaeologist interested in artifacts of ancient times is going to be either helpful asset to the party (like Raba in Ys VI) or sinister villain planning to unleash whaever evil or power sealed in their and use it for his own ends (which is frankly what Weissman did in SC). Tia looked like she was going to be a love interest (Read: future wife candidate for Adol) but turned out to be a villain. So I guess we could give Falcom some credit for little twist. Still, it bugs me that they decided to cleanse Altago when Altago is hardly at the verge of destruction. It really doesn't justify their actions. At least other villains in the Ys series did it for themselves and power. Plus, I would have liked to see them in action more often with Tia's secretly manipulating Adol's party at some points and Scias's appearning more often and becoming more threatening (like Chester was in OiF). On a side note, the cycle seems really sadistic for giving people a hope and then crushing it. Wouldn't it more merciful to, say, just summon huge title waves? It sure would be more simple.

Pertaining to Geitz..
Since it would appear that Iska is in fact Geitz's hometown, then that makes it Ernst's as well, correct? So were the people of Iska the ones that sealed the Ark of Napishtim after making the Ash Emelas?

Yeah, I was wondering that as well. There is no language I can readily think of in which "Geis" would be pronounced as "Gash". -Tom faRcom language

For one, I really like the way this game's story is told so far. The story itself is nothing special - it's very typical, as is often the case with Ys games - but as is ALSO often the case with Ys games, it manages to somehow breathe new life and charm into an otherwise generic storyline, through excellent dialogue and a pervading sense of a living world. True. In fact, that's why I actually want Ys's plot to be a bit cliche. Adol is one of the straightest example of the knight in the shining armor ever and it would be jarring to see him (or inappropriate use of his character) in morally grey situations or something like that. To me, the greatest appeal that Ys's plot in general has is its simplicity. The story has nothing special but there is simple charm in it that makes it an exotic tale from far away lands. That's why the villains did not click with me. It seems like Falcom was trying to break the mold of usual evil villains and make them sympathetic but that just made them slightly out of place in the world of Ys.

Does it ever explicitly say (spoiler) that Geis was born there, or just that he came there in search of new skills to fight his brother? I was under the impression he was not a native. But I could be wrong on that one. He came looking for skills to defeat Ernst. I can't remember it ever being said that he was born there.

Well I just beat the game and, holy cow, the final boss was sweet. I liked the last portion of it... it had a nice traditional Ys feel to it.
Couple of questions: -What the heck was the final boss and did it have anything to do with any other games? (The rest in spoiler color)
-What happens to the dragons at the end when they fly off? Are they returning to their resting places or leaving Altago or what? -Does the game say what happens to Adol and Dogi afterwards? Most Ys games seem to end with Adol (and when applicable Dogi as well) leaving whatever land they were in. Does it say he sets sail again or maybe heads out on foot somewhere else? I know it's not that important, I just really need closure in the form of "Adol's off to more adventures; catch him in the next game."
Edit:
And about Scias; I expect him to be one of the villains as well. If you watch the intro video (which I did one or ten too many times before I got the game) you can see a dark cloaked figure holding his sword. It was a little bit of a give away.
