I didn't look at the time he posted. "shrugs". Oh well, he must be ok then. Whats crazy is that the campus had no idea the shooting rampage was in effect until 2 hours into it. Talk about insecurity. I forecast a decline in enrollment next semester.

No, I am actually at the main campus in Blacksburg. Well, I live off campus, but I'm still down here,
I've begun, at least a little, to understand why the response was slow. The president of the university held several press conferences, and in one said that the first incident was believed, at the time, to be isolated and domestic in nature. Rumors around here indicate it was a guy looking for his girlfriend. I've read the timeline the president spelled out. It sounds like appropriate actions were taken. No one could have predicted the second, random attack. They are quite different in nature. In fact, authorities are still refraining from saying that the two are even linked.
But thanks for all of the concern, everybody. To my knowledge, no one I know has been hurt, but I have heard of people 3 or so degrees away (a friend of a friend of a roommate, or whatever) being hurt or killed. In a tight setting like this, that's bound to happen to me repeatedly this week.

That gunman was a creative writer. There has been findings of his creative writing which is mainly horror; how ironic.

I've read one of his plays that's been talked about, on the internet. I can kinda see how it could have been shrugged away as non threatening when his English professor showed it to the police and others. But she was right to be alarmed. It wasn't horror stories, but it was very violent and full of hate. There was a coherent story in them, but it seemed so much more as a platform to get his hate out (from what I've heard, this is the only way he ever got his hate out). He focused on describing scenes of hate over anything else. Still, it was well disguised in the short story. Despite all the hate he wrote, one could say he was just trying to show the immense hate the characters had, not his own hate. But I'm surprised, after reading his stuff, that he was ever well on his way to being an English major. It wasn't well written for even a high school level. Many things made no sense and there were huge character inconsistencies. It served no other purpose than to describe a disturbing end to a problematic family... the police (or maybe folks at an asylum?) should have actually questioned him about it, it was much too over-the-top and exaggerated, almost like the characters suddenly went psychotic for no apparent reason. But probably the most disturbing thing about it was knowing all the while that he had written it.
I'm watching two of his room mates speaking about him on CNN right now. I hope they don't say that he played a lot of video games...
Terrible tragedy... very unfortunate. Glad you're alright drakono.

No way it will happen again at Virginia Tech. Incidents like these usually always happen when people less suspect it. I have a possible theory that the killer intentionally might of planned only to kill those two people in the dorm and maybe it felt so good inside of him that he went trigger happy. But since this guy was a loner, it really is hard to get any conclusive evidence what his motiv was besides the hateful literature he wrote. I'm sure the media will expose more info about this guy as the days unfold.

Yeah, it's true and I agree that you can't just question anyone who writes in an eerie or disturbing way, but I think it was more because of what the teacher knew about the student coupled with how he always wrote that raised an eyebrow. This person rarely expressed himself, this teacher was one of the very very few people who got a hold of some kinda window into his mind. This is the play I read, if anyone wants to check it out. It's not as much about catching people that do these things before they happen, but helping to prevent people to get into a mindset to do these things. The guy was on anti-depressants, more than a couple people saw that he obviously needed some help. I can relate to the guy in some ways too, but I know why I'd never do anything like that. I grew up like a bit of a loner myself, pretty much, but I did have the very few people I could talk to all the time and help me get through my thoughts. I'm sure, no one likes to be a loner or be depressed o be unhappy, and that for their health it'd be good for anyone who notices someone like that to talk with them. The teacher did the right thing by trying to get him some help, but you can't force someone to gt help. She tried to take it upon herself to get more into his mind and to help him, but she couldn't get anything. Eventually he just went back to being totally ignored. But i you're right, no matter what we do to prevent these things, it's bound to happen again. The human mind is an incredible thing, powerful as it is fragile, and there's just no telling where it can take some people. and at least, the media is not completely focusing on this guy (at least, CNN isn't). They're talking about the morning and reflecting and talking about those who died and how the students reacted so bravely in such a situation.

anyway want to know something really funny?
here the gasoline just cost 0.025$ per litre, that means one can get a full tank with aprox 2 dollars...

They've already blamed games. Only a few short hours after the incident was over, Jack Thompson immediately used it for his political crusade. Without even knowing the guy's name, he immediately put the blame on video games. At the time when the news should have not brought up such theories and instead focus on morning, like CNN was, Fox decided to bring on Jack Thompson of all people as the first person to talk about it.
But from what I've heard about the guy so far, it seemed he didn't even play any video games. His roomates said he listened to the same song mostly, over and over. Also, he went for bike rides at night almost every day or something.

I wonder what was in the guys dormitory? I didn't realize until I read the headlines more that after he killed the two people in the dormitory he traveled miles to the other end of the campus and Pad locked a hall shut so nobody could escape. It defitetely seems planned a bit. Kinda reminds me of the Terminator when Arnold just storms the police station killing everybody on sight except this is for real.
I just saw a video of former roomates of his saying that he barely ever talked and when he did, he said he had an imaginary girlfriend plus he stalked some girls on campus. He also played Collective Souls Shine song on his laptop over and over.

As far as I know, it looks like there was a laptop in his room, and a bike I guess. I don't even know if they've checked his dorm, but I do know that his parents have given permission to check his home. And for his planning, as far as anyone knows, he just wanted to get as many people as possible. He just seemed angry with the whole world. No one knows why he chose the building(s) he did or if he had any targets in mind, yet. Also, no one knows if he was trying to trap people in by chaining the doors, or if he was just trying to keep the police out. I think it's just enough to know that he was just so full of sadness and hate and that he was a depressed and disturbed person. I think his room mates should have tried to speak more with him, personally, and tried to get him to open up some more. I mean, they did get him to go out with them to drink and what not... He liked these lyrics so much that he wrote them on his dorm wall... the next Marilyn Manson?

Yes, he seemed to be a type of person who just made up imaginary friends and would talk to them in his own personal world. Wonder if he tried to talk to any of the girls he stalked? It really doesnt matter what the police find cause you cant undo what is done.

They're thinking there might be an accomplice, probably so that there's one guy for each part of the shootings. I don't know, I highly doubt there was. All they'll find is more crap for political crusades, like that song, or sooner or later, video games.

Collective Soul is not notorious for being a hate rock band but rather a Christian rock loving band. Its hard to imagine this guy listened to collective soul judging from his hateful writing. You would think he would listen to groups that promote violence. Although most people do listen to music to make them feel happy so that one song probably was his ailment.

Yeah, I know... but I was just talking about it in a bit of a cynical sense. It's kind of like a stab at the idea that "violent" music promotes violent acts, so I'm just saying, I'd like to see how those people try and explain this one. Here is the account of another guy who knew him"I hope this might help people start caring about others more no matter how weird they might seem, because if this was some kind of cry for attention, then he should have gotten it a long time ago." This guy reminds me a lot of this nervous guy my dad described from work who would talk almost in a suicidal sense if certain coworkers didn't speak with him. "Hey, this guy walked right past me today when I said hi... do you think he hates me? what's wrong with me? why did he do that? I feel terrible about myself...". He reminds me even more of someone I met at college... I should have been more accepting with him, but I was nearly as shy a person as he was. He dropped out of college soon after I met him.

Back on topic, someone said something about the slim-playstation not being good as the big-silent-ones. Are these so-called silent playstations a newer version even newer then the slim-playstation and more reliable??

Well, I've had my slim for nearly 2 years now and it hasn't done any of the strange things my fat PS2 did. But I haven't heard of this special silent fat PS2 that wyrd mentioned, until now. My slim rarely makes much noise anyways.
But I did get something new on the PS3. Apparently, if it gets too hot, the fan starts to make a ton of noise and then, in the middle of whatever you're doing, you get a message telling you that the PS3 needs to be turned off immediately. So if you've had to download something for over 2 hours (yes it takes that long) and then try to play a game or watch a movie, half an hour in you should get the message and your PS3 will go near nuclear. I don't know how many accounts of this there's been, but apparently it does happen.
