Anyone ever see this one before? After installing the game (did the 1GB install) I replaced the original .exe files with the ones from the ysc0107 patch. Then I applied Nightwolf's patch and attempted to run. The screen went black like it wanted to run and then came back immediately and gave me the following error:
Error: An error has occurred.
with a little picture of a roo by it... and yeah, I know, not a real descriptive error message. I feel like I've tried everything from tinkering around in compatability mode to copying the files directly from disc.
Edit: Little more info here... running vista 64 bit and have nvidia graphics card for what it's worth.

Yeah, the 1Gb one was on top and the 460 M was on bottom. I'll give it a try, thanks

Are you playing a legit version of the game?

Not sure, my friend that got me into the series gave me the discs. They look sort of generic, so maybe. :/
Maybe I should go beat his ass... but it does work fine on his XP machine though so I don't know what I should be attempting.

Falcom's disks are usually pretty crappy looking, but you can tell if they are legit, because there is noticeable factory inking on the CD.
I'm just wondering if you have a bunk copy, and something didn't install right. I had that problem when I downloaded Ys VI, which is yet another reason I've been hunting for a legit copy.

Uh oh. Maybe I should just cut my losses and order Ys Chron when it comes out in a month.

You can get Ys Complete from Falcoms site too.

I don't know why I'd invest the money when I could get something that's the same but better. Sort of the reason I got my friend's copy in the first place. I -did- get him to let me play it on his when I'm over at his place though, so it's not a complete loss.

Because its the only way to play that version of Ys in English perhaps?

Have you tried just copying the necessary files over from the disc like the way it is described in the English patch? Thats the way I always do it and they always work fine... Because its the only way to play that version of Ys in English perhaps? Very true. English patches are only meant for the Complete versions of the game. Maybe SOME day Nightwolve might rework it for Chronicles, but only time will tell...

Hehe well, it's not like we all don't know the story from memory. Yeah, it'd be cool to get the game working and I'm gonna keep trying different things to see if I get lucky but I won't be heartbroken if I don't.

What's the difference with installation 1.0G and 460M?
I tried the installation 1.0G but the installation stop to 45%. I don't understand the problem.
OK i found the problem,i remplace the disk 1 by the disk 2 in the same driver.
But now the problem is my screen flashing when i play to Ys COmplete.A problem with Vista?

Do you know which version you're trying to install? Falcom later released a Vista-compatible version of Ys I & II Complete but I don't know what fixes that entails.

THX but i had already done this:
As for the screen flashing with Vista, update your graphics drivers. In 99% of cases, that fixes the problem.
I updated my NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GS and its again the same problem.

When i unisintall my NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GS.
The game is normal (screen with no flash)
But when i re install my NVIDIA,the problem is again here.
Maybe the solution is i play to Ys complete with no fullscreen.
You can play to Ys complete with no fullscreen?
PS: And its bizarre,i can play with several PC games in fullscreen with no problems.

That suggests the problem IS the nVidia driver, actually... which means maybe the solution is to DOWNGRADE your graphics driver, rather than upgrading. Maybe if you go down a version or two, or wait for the next upgrade version, the problem will be fixed. -Tom Ok,i'll try this solution
