Well, its been about 3 years since I last played YsF. As some of you know, I've come into a new Desktop PC as of late, and I felt this was a great time to reinvigorate myself in Ys stuff.
I first played YsF back around its release date, and finished it thanks to a faq. Still, there was no comprehension of the story, and I relied very heavily on past knowledge of older titled to help with understanding the plot.
There was a big disconnect with the game unfortunately, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Now, a few years later, I'm able to enjoy the game in English thanks to the Otakon disks.
So far I've only taken a few steps into the The Illburns Ruins, which basically means I've only scratched the surface of the game.
Still, the personalities of each character are really unique, and memorable, something I revel in this time around. I'm really happy Elena didn't turn out like the whiny baby she could have been. Chester is an asshole, but its pulled off rather nicely, and Dogi is every bit as awesome as I would have expected him to be. I'm not really understanding the "You gotta be shitting me?" line, as it felt a bit out of place, but hey free translation, right?
For the most part, I'm really digging the job NW and Deuce did on the FanTrans. While I'm a bit annoyed with (CHUCKLE), and (GIGGLE), the rest of the text flows really well. Its very much up to professional par, and is a breeze to read through.
I still like the engine in Ys VI a bit more (DASH JUMP!!!!), yet I'm still amazed how smooth Adol moves. I can traverse the battle field with ease, all while cutting up my enemies with simple button presses. This game could be played by monkeys, but enjoyed by uber-gamer alike.
If I was to complain about one thing, it would have to be the first boss. She, er... well it, is F______G CHEAP!! It always takes me 3 tries just win, and its always by the skin of my teeth.
Anyways, I'll post more impressions once I log more time into the game. Lunar EB is calling me, and I have to finish that before I do anything else.

Don't forget to grab the files that translate the mural left unstranslated in the Beta patch. The link is floating around in another thread here.

After I was playing it through this latest time, I found a line that was left untranslated. When I picked up Christof at the entrance to the ruins, just for shits and giggles, I tried to use the wing. A blue and untranslated line came up. I'm not sure if anyone knows about it or cares at this point, but I thought I would bring it up anyway.

Are you sure? Unless you can ultimately prove you have a legit copy of the game, was given the patch ether through the Otakon disk, or via donation, you are in for an ear full. Someone whom wishes to remain nameless, sent him an email asking him what his problem was. They do not pirate games, have all legit copies of titles they enjoy, and still NW was quick to classify them as "Worthless Pirates".

I will e-mail Nightwolve about it. I do have a legit copy of the game since I bought it from Falcom and Nightwolve e-mailed me the patch since I donated. I don't think he'll chew me out.

They do not pirate games, have all legit copies of titles they enjoy, and still NW was quick to classify them as "Worthless Pirates". Nightwolve is a criminal. He's worse than a person who pirates games. For one thing, I'm really sure he's guilty of tax evasion. The donation setup is always a suspect, especially in a private website. It is a gimmick to substitute the more flagrant approach, which is selling the translated patch for a certain price. Anyone donating money to Nightwolve is a complete dumbass. My buddies did something similar in their private websites. They claimed that the donations will benefit the site, but in reality, the donations are all pocketed by the site owner(s) and the money is used for personal gain. The income they earned must be declared in the income tax file return, but they didn't do that. So basically, from what I can gather, you guys are supporting a criminal. How ironic. EDIT: Well, I guess this is a good opportunity to show some of my videos. I've posted videos of my low-level challenge against certain bosses in normal mode. I'll post the video where Adol (low-level) battles against Death Faleon eventually.... Dularn www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQl1esHW9b0Chester www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQtTKJ4Qlvs

I don't much care for the man myself, but in spite of any harm he may have done, he's also done a lot of good for the Falcom community, and I honestly believe that even his less savory actions have all been done - at least originally - with the best of intentions. So yeah... I understand your sentiment, but let's just put the kaibash on this here and now, shall we? -Tom How can a man be honest when he's taking advantage of the situation, specifically for his own personal gain? That's flat-out dishonesty --- he's not doing anything good for the Falcom community. I have already told some of my buddies about that guy and they were very disgusted. Nightwolve should be offering the patch for free, not selling them or asking for donations in any shape or form. He is clearly guilty of tax evasion and might as well be guilty for fraud. I know others like him. If you want to do anyone a good and honest favour, provide the translated patch for free. If Nightwolve refuses to do the translating (his translation skills aren't that good), fine. There will always be someone honest taking over his place. It is not logical to support a criminal. EDIT: This is the same analogy where a foreigner living in Canada can't speak English. They are very nice and courteous to people, but in reality, they are criminals guilty of tax evasion and money laundering back in their home country. Probe the person's heart inside, not outside.

Ha ha, this all reminds me of the tomfuckery that took place at Boxtorrents.com last year. Is anyone here a fan of that old place?
Well, I have been since its inception, and I've even donated to Box on occasion. I did to help with paying for the server, and because I've downloaded Gigs of stuff from them. Turns out he was getting way more than he needed each month for the server fees, so naturally the money went to other things. A few of the other admin got wind of this, pulled an insurrection and snuffed Box out of the equation. BakaBT.com is what became of this ordeal, and its now safe to donate ha ha.
I don't think BlackBean is in the wrong for being upset. In all honesty Wyrd, I don't think we need to act in any special way to prove anything to that guy. He can think what he wants about users here, because at the end of the day it means squat. Why do we have to prove anything to anyone? We know very well where we stand as Falcom fans, and how devoted we are to enjoying their games. Being a Japanese company, their stuff is very hard to come across to the average user, which means that there is always going to be a high percentage of people pirating games of theirs. I did, but now I own every single Falcom title that I've wanted in the past. I did because I ended up gaining a respect for the company, which was largly facilitated by the surrounding dedication I observed here. If he wants to be a wanker to new users, then good for him. Being a good roll model for new users is the smartest way to curb piracy, not stamping personal cost on a HIGHLY ILLEGAL, AND UNAUTHORIZED patch. I love the effort he has put in, and I'm damn pissed that Deuce doesn't post here anymore. Still, I'm not going to change, or keep my opinion quiet because we have to prove anything to him. I don't give a rats ass about what he thinks, or what he plans on doing in the future. Nor do I care about how cool of a Falcom fan he cares to decree I am.
Can we lock this topic? II've really lost all interest in posting any further impressions for YsF here.

This topic was about my 2nd run through YsF. If the conversation needs to be carried on to another topic, create one, and lock this. As of now, I'm not interested in posting any further remarks on the game, and this topic has gone to hell. I'd really like it locked or deleted.
