Were talking about X right? Aren't you just supposed to use Wall on the end boss, because he constantly heals himself? I've never had problems with him at all. Actually, no. Lufia I final boss. ^^; AND HOLY COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWS!!! YES! A Lufia II semi-remake was what I wished for! The new artwork is gorgeous too! :DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD And yesssssssssssssssss to the redone music too! OMG! No! I must not keep high expectations!!!!!! And ... I sort of wish it were on the PSP more than DS because if it ends up being as actiony as PS0 (for whatever reason), my thumbs and palms are going to end up being destroyed. Also, hj, play the original SNES version first! :D

I find the re-imagining idea likable since it allows the developers to start from scratch while still adhering to the continuity established so far; I doubt they'll change the big storyline elements such as the fates of main characters at the end of the game, which you should know if you played the original Lufia II. I am curious as to how things will turn out. I hope the release over here does not take too long like Ruins of Lore (which took longer than an entire year) although I doubt this game will be released over here as quickly as Lufia II and Lufia III (which got released only two weeks after the releases in Japan!). I am suspecting sometime around fall 2010. Also, from what I've seen so far, the reaction to this re-imagining has been far more positive in the Western boards than the Eastern ones, where people practically scream "they changed it now so it sucks/ is ruined forever."

Also, from what I've seen so far, the reaction to this re-imagining has been far more positive in the Western boards than the Eastern ones, where people practically scream they changed it now so it sucks/ is ruined forever ummmmm <.< >.> Unfortunately I am sort of half way on jumping on the negitive bandwagon. Lufia 2 was one of those game i played to death back in the Snes days. (I never beat the Blob at Lvl 100 though no matter how hard i tried). My original reaction was OMG! a new Lufia game sweet! OMG! its on DS sweet. OMG!!! its a remake of Lufia II Very sweet! Omg? .... its an action rpg? .... and its going to be made by neverland games the same crew who did Shining Force Neo and EXA. O.O T.T Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!! Some games are just not to be remagined in a different way of gameplay and if it is to be the case it has to be made by someone who is capable at doing so which in this case isn't unfortnately. It would be like taking another company instead of Falcom remaking Ys Book 1 and 2 and making it into a traditional turn based RPG, it just wouldn't work. However I do like the artwork and the actual game does look pretty cool. Its just with neverland games at the helm makes me very very worried. I'm not going to fully bash the game because it does show some promise and I hope that Neverland games have learned from their mistakes in the past. I am really psyched to see the Sinistrals remade though the 4 in Lufia II to me are some of the coolest villians in an RPG.

Ehh, I get your stance, but at the same time my expectations are high. If it was the same traditional type game we had before, it would make it easier to pick out problems and dislikes. I'm happy they went with a new play style, as its really going to make the game feel new. Almost like a retelling from a different point of view, you know?

I just found out Neverland games actually made the original Lufia 1 & 2 for the snes.
O.O
Maybe I'm wrong with what I said before. Since they are the original creators they may have the interests of old school fans at heart while creating the game for a new audience.
I was a bit quick to jump the gun with the negativity since RPGfan put it was made from the same team that made Shining Force Neo & EXA ...... thats not something that should be advertised boldly.
It might be worth giving it a go. ^^

I agree with Justin on this. The developers are showing guts to change the established system and put something new in. Ys V/VI ditched the body slamming attack system in favor of more traditional hack/slash one but that change turned out to be awesome. And just for that, I am actually promoting it on various boards more than I would have if this re-imagining used the original system. We'll have to wait and see how it turns out but I like what I have heard and seen so far.

It was awesome in Ys VI... but in Ys V? Not so much! (: God, I am HATING combat in Ys V... sooooooo poorly implemented... I love how you can corner enemies and stab them to death. I kept doing that with the skeletons in the field and in the first dungeon. :P And yeah, I can't seem to keep my interest with Ys V. Every time I start, I never get further than like 2 hours gameplay time. :P

I don't get why you think its poorly implemented. Look at the year it was released, the system it was for, and what other games it could have been compared too. Its quite fitting if you ask me.

Sometimes though, it seems like you are harder on some games than you should be. Ys V doesn't have an "inexcusable" battle system dude. Zelda only had one attack, and the only thing that changed was the sword color/strength. Are we to assume the same opinion for that game too?

Ys is good dude, but not that good. I was also talking about Link to the Past, which had the same 4 way attack pattern, even though the game had 8 direction movement.

Ignoring the Ys V issue since I can't comment on that, I would love to know what manner of magical version of Secret of Mana you were playing, because the version I played had unimaginably bad hit detection. And even if my attacks did hit, the game would take like 3 seconds to register it, which gave the enemies enough time to bash my face in before actually being stunned by my attack.

lol, what "Secret of Mana" was that one you played, hj? รต_o It IS as well-done as Wyrd described, actually, and most definitely not like how you described it... it sounded like a totally different game, even.
Anyway, I think Wyrd has very strong points concerning Ys V, but I personally don't think so poorly of its gameplay. (Later on there's also the magic system, Wyrd, so don't forget there's more.) Anyway, I never stopped to think about it like that, but when Wyrd brought it up, I have to agree with him that all Ys entries were the best of its kind in terms of gameplay: best bumping systems in Ys I, II and IV, Ys III is Ys III, Ys VI is unmatchable and then Ys SEVEN did it again. I like Ys V a lot too, but I have to admit it IS indeed NOT the best of its kind, in my opinion. But, as I said, I still like it: it's still good in my opinion.
Though, Wyrd, you're INSANE if you disliked A Link to the Past, and think it's repetitive. xD Besides, it's probably my favorite Zelda game, by a wiiiiiiiiiiiide margin. (The GBA version to be most precise.)

Well, maybe the virtual console version is glitched, but barring that, I don't know what to say. Whenever I hit the enemy, two-three seconds would pass, and then the screen would freeze for a fraction of a second, and the enemy would finally get stunned and take the hit. That is, assuming the attack even registered, which it often didn't. Let me illustrate it: YYYYYNNNNN ========>
That thing is supposed to be a sword, and Y means hitting an enemy with that part of the sword will register a hit, and N means hitting the enemy with that part wouldn't register a hit. In short, I'd need to get close enough to hug the enemy before doing anything. The bow's hit detection was fine, though, but I wanna melee it up, not hang back with a bow.
Well, even so, this flaw would have been forgivable if not for the magic system...
