Well, I have been trying to make this work but after I click on "Start the game" in the Game Setup screen, the screen turns black (as if it were to start) but after some seconds it brings me back to the desktop. I have made some googling about this particular problem but most black screens I've found take place after the game has loaded and even played a bit (I cannot even see the Falcom logo).
I'm using XP Professional, AMD Sempron processor 1.80 Ghz, integrated graphic chipset VIA9 and 500 ram. I've tried running it through AppLocale, but it's the same.
The funny thing is that I've tested the same installation in a laptop running on XP Home and it works (falcom logo, main screen, character selection, french intro and opening video), but I cannot use that one since it is not mine.
Do you have any suggestions about why does this happen? The only thing I can think about is some sort of incompatibility with the graphic chipset...

I'll reinstall all the video codecs, but I can watch the videos just fine in the RELEASE folder.

I made it work! I tried to run the game from a new Windows account, and worked! The only thing is that I cannot see the video files (the falcom logo and the introductory sequence with the silver harmonica are just black, but I can hear the music).

Miracle! The K-Lite pack made the vids to appear. So I'm all set to go through this gem (I just got the stone mask).
Thank you!

IF I can suggest you and everyone who will experience troubles with video the best thing is to disable the management of the xvid , mpeg, and divx video from the fddshow control panel. Another thing to is to put the Ys origin executable among the exclusion sin the fddshow control panel. In such way video will be played by the system video using fddshow and there won't be no issues. Bye Bye
