Oh boy, the old customs game...that one almost always sucks, although I've had fairly decent luck myself. Sometimes, though, it just...ugh.

You Canadians have all the bad luck. I've never once had a single package held by customs, in my entire life. Granted, I've only ever lived in the U.S. and Japan, but I've had plenty of Japanese (and Hong Kong) packages mailed to me in the U.S., and plenty of U.S. packages mailed to me in Japan, with absolutely no trouble. As far as I know the US customs limit is much lower than the UK's, though. Doesn't a parcel's value have to be something like $100 before it's susceptible to tax? Here it works out at about $25. Anything over that value sent express can and WILL get charged 17.5% VAT. And EMS stuff then gets a nasty handling charge of about 15 bucks on top of that. Japan didn't seem to have any at all though. I ordered a camcorder from Amazon UK (cus it was cheaper) when I was out there and got my mum to forward it on. She'd clearly written the £550 value on the parcel, and it didn't get a single yen in tax. I miss that Well, I miss Japan in general, but...

Sent express? I've never been charged for a Falcom parcel either for the obvious reason, but outside of express parcels the only time I've been charged here was a big PVC sent SAL (cus it was pretty big, I assume) and some anime DVDs (no idea why they were picked up on)

Well, I didn't have to deal with customs fees and delays when I ordered Origin last year, but I did have to deal with the incompetence of UPS. It took less than a day from order for the package to get to New York; it took 3 days for it to get from New York to my house!

Yeah, same here, all I've ever ordered are CDs and games, never anything oversized like that, so it pretty much went just fine. I never lost a package from Japan or China using EMS, but I used USPS just ONCE to get some Doctor Who DVDs off Amazon and they NEVER SHOWED UP. I was severely pissed too, because they were a really good deal there...I got refunded of course, but I never ordered DVDs from them again.
EDIT: Oh, and yes, I do feel something sorta similar? to that dimension shift. I feel this unnerving sense of massiveness to the universe and complete disconnect from humanity that makes me wonder sometimes if I'm really even human. Well...alot of times, actually. I mean, being transgender makes you feel pretty disconnected anyway, but this is on a much more cosmic scale. That said, I tend to just leave it in the back of mind and go on about life until I find some reason to disconnect from it completely. I wouldn't be at all surprised if we lived in the Matrix or some Serial Experiments Lain type universe. Heaven FORBID I ever figure out one day that this universe isn't real...I'd suddenly be free to do whatever I want and be whatever I want...and that's scary ^___^

I often feel that I'm just living a delusion. So I do kinda get what you mean, Wyrdy.
And I felt like this before I played SO3, so shut up.

I dunno. Life is too tragic and miserable to be a delusion. I used to think it could be; but it hurts, therefore it is. The good parts are probably a delusion, however. So let's see... there are no justices of the peace out here. Which is good, because I'm not THAT cheap! Still, finding the right church, hmmm... and all this prep work. Finding time to go fill out paperwork together to get a marriage license... hmmm... How come chick flicks never bring up the whole marriage license thing?! Everyone who ever gets married in a movie is illegally wed?! Your marriage is null and void!!! I can't speak for Vegas, though. O _o

Feh, all you people talking about life being a delusion are merely just products of my own delusion to try to fool me into thinking I'm still sane!
Turns out what I thought was going to be a LEGO set that I've been waiting for for a month was actually a 5lb. box of assorted candy!

Lol, true. But still, it leaves those of use who are inexperienced to wonder how things are done. X) I think we have it all under control. I'd still like to think that there's a wedding FAQ out there, somewhere.

I think it's just because of my general nerdiness and semi-obscure interests. When people talk about (most) popular TV shows or (most) modern music, my eyes sort of glaze over with disinterest. I'm probably about as interested in Jersey Shore as they are in Phoenix Wright, I figure. The Internet is great at bringing people together by interest despite physical distance, though, so it's possible to feel like I've found people like me online even when I tend to feel isolated like that offline. (Then again, the fact that I'm so very shy offline doesn't really help either...) On the other hand, it's the Internet that introduced me to those interests in the first place. How... insidious. But, eh, I'd rather find something cool and be the only one who thinks it's cool than just blindly follow everyone else, I figure.

I've been playing too much PSP2 when I instinctively hit the left shoulder button in other games constantly trying to recenter my camera.

May sound a bit rude, but some of you guys really need to get out more, and do better at finding people with similar interests to yours. The fans of whatever you're fans of surely exist offline, I can guarantee it

Most of my friends share my interests in part or in full, so I can at least attest to that being true. I won't say anything in regards to what folks should do, though. If nothing else, within a group of existing friends it's always fun to proselytize that which you enjoy! I'm always fangasming music n' games to my friends/roomies. Got a decent handful of family that are receptive to things I like, too! I dunno, maybeI'm just fortunate in that regard. On another note. I believe I stated prior that Umineko was quite possibly the greatest soundtrack to anything, ever? Man, I spent all day at work listening to nothing, NOTHING, but that. 12 hour shift full of fuckin' awesome. Day certainly didn't feel too long.

Well, I have, uh, conflicting interests, and thus several groups of friends. Can't say I also like convincing people about likes and dislikes - if someone isn't into something, I leave it at that.
On a random note: MMMMmmmmmmmmm, roasted chestnuts.

Mm, I probably chose the wrong word, or at least too strong of a word. Sharing would be better. I don't try to do any convincing outside of "You really don't like it? " Maybe jokingly throw in a "You suck!" or "You have no taste!" to a friend if they don't like it.

Hey, God knows, I tried. Eventually I re-learned the meaning of "tastes differ" and gave up on it. You can't suddenly make people appreciate extreme metal or anime if they're not predisposed to it. On another note, your avatar looks too sad. Change it to something that's either smiley-happy, or at least beaming with spirit/confidence like mine
