Copypaste from purchases thread: This should explain everything. (also got a sweater, socks, brush, gourmet shampoo, hair dryer, swimming gear, a bunch of candy, book light, nail clippers, aloe hand sanitizer, a bunch of gift cards and some cash, and AWESOME BIG DOGS BOXERS that my parents managed to get before they went out of business!) Almost forgot the movie that I'm watching right now, Mr. Woodcock. It's actually not bad so far, and I can kinda relate.

My family pitched together to get me a $50 gift card to subway...
Ignoring for a second that I've said for the last 5 years, if you're going to get me a gift card...or *shudder* cash, to *not bother giving me anything because I find it insulting*...subway? really?
Last year it was a walmart gift card, which despite the fact that I have easily said over 1000 times in their presence that I don't shop there for moral reasons, is at least useful in-so-far as I could potentially purchase something I'd actually want... subway? really?
I spend a great deal of thought getting people gifts for the holidays, and every year, they in return give me the reassurance that they didn't even try, and don't even know me. Despite telling them I would greatly prefer the honesty that comes with no-gift than the obligatory no-thought gift, they continue to give them to me.
/sigh
I hate X-Mas, and that, is what I got.

That's... 50$ in subs man! 50 freaking dollars!
I'd take that, personally. Of course, there's not much else to do with that, so I can understand your upsettedness, but really, if you wanna be positive, think of the tasty subs!

Aside from a rather nasty cold from good ol' mother nature... (being utterly fatigued body-wide and all but comatose on Christmas eve was grand, let me tell you.), I didn't get a whole lot. Which is more than I have gotten in the past 5 years! Since getting a job when I was 16 and realizing anything I "want" I can, and should, go get for myself, I've told people I wanted nothing. Having moved out this past September and faced financial reality , I did cave in and answer my mothers question this year... I needed new clothes and shoes. SO she got me 4 shirts and some new shoes and packed it all in a nice little new duffel bag. Good deal. I also got some obligatory chocolates, some money (which I've used to buy the new Zelda, a cheap copy of Valkyria Chronicles I found, about 5 pairs of pants, another simple shirt and some really cheap speakers for my PC since I'm tired of using the cheap old headset I have; all told about $60 on frivolities and $100 on necessities. I think I did okay! Oh! I also gave a dollar to some random guy today. ) Also got a couple gift cards ... haven't used those yet. B&N (25) I'll save til there's a book I want, I guess. And the Kohl's (25) one my grandmother wants to take me clothes shopping with. And out to lunch, too. As she's probably my favorite person on the planet, that's totally cool. Also got to see my dad, which is nice. There's a long story there that I won't get into, but... knowing he's okay was good, and getting a hug from him was too. More than anything I just liked seeing everyone together. Following a big loss within it I've definitely felt the family drawn closer together, and with this year's holiday toned down dramatically in terms of gifts, I liked everyone just hanging out and being happy rather than obsessing over what's in the boxes. Edit:! I totally forgot. I'm gonna use the rest of that money to invite my mom and her folks over for some dinner at my new place soon, since they haven't been here yet. Gonna try to make some chicken katsu curry, that I am! I shall use cookingwithdog as my guide! haha.

Of course, there's not much else to do with that, so I can understand your upsettedness, but really, if you wanna be positive, think of the tasty subs! While I don't mind gift certs and cash, I do sort of draw the line when it comes to gift certs to eateries. I dunno. I like to use money given to me for things I can use and keep. Food is kind of a waste cuz it's something consumable. :| Although ... $50 in subs. Lord, I don't even think I can use that up in a year and I sure as hell wouldn't want to eat so many subs in a single year. :P Anyway! I got more gifts today! \^o^/ From me boyfriend: These were a total surprise because I've only expressed indifference when we talked about and looked at the Tako Luka charms a few months ago. And I completely didn't expect a Chibi Miku-san doujinshi. The gifts also came with an awesome drawings (by my BF) of Kirby doing the flailing Get Down thing from the Goldeneye glitch as well as The-Thing-Not-Quite-Sure-What-It-Is (beware of potential pr0n ads on that site).

Samurai Jack rules! I know I say that about everything, but it's true!
What's also cool is that they're finally getting a theatrical movie made to finish up the series.
