I've decided to buy back my 1000 I sold to my brother, for the sole purpose of doing the CFW/emulation stuff, so that I can play alot my console games on the go, among other things. But, I'm very weary of where to go, I don't want to get any viruses for my comp, or my PSP. Can someone help?!? I especially want to play my PCE CD & Jag games on the go(though, I don't know if I've ever heard of any Jag emu's for PSP).

If you're just going to be doing emulation, the best place to go is probably Exophase's forums.
If I get the thumbs-up, I'll provide you with some links.

Alrighty then, thanks Wyrdy. I think I'll just link you to the entire CFW guide forum; after all, you might want to do more than just emulate games, and the PSP can do much more outside of that and piracy. Here you go. Registration isn't absolutely required, if I remember correctly, though you might want to anyway. It's probably kinda silly to link it now since I already mentioned it before... but hey, convenience is nice, isn't it?

Thanks! Hopefully I'll get all this figured out & working, I may be able to actually do some catch up on my HUGE backlog of games that I haven't beaten over the last several eon's, & I'll look into the other stuff too.

Yeah, go ahead. Again, as long as you're not discussing Falcom piracy, it's fair game for this board. (: It's Seldane's ghost!

What's funniest is that even Seldane was against piracy back in 2005 or so. xDDDD

Well, I finally got my PSP 1000 from my bro. I've been on Exophase's site for hours, I have no idea what to do. Everytime I think I found the right how to guide, it says I need to make sure I have xxx in Kernal or I need M33 whatever. I'm beyond frusteration, & I don't want to bug anyone there if possible. Mine is firmware 3.11, wear do I start? I found guides for other versions, do I need Lumines, or GTA??

The way I did it for the 1000 was to flash the firmware back to 1 something or rather -- the lowest one. I had a copy of Lumines to work with though.
It's been a long time since I did this so I can't recall which firmware requires the GTA exploit. .______.
I also can't remember if the PSP-1000 has the whole MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THIS TYPE OF MOTHERBOARD bit like the 2000 or not. I think it does. o_O
I did uber research and Googling before I did any downgrading or upgrading and stuff. I wish I could remember which sites I used and it wouldn't be a good idea for me to start searching for them now since I'm at work. ^^;;;;
I'll look around for stuff when I get home. :3

Thanks, I appreciate it. I'm uber slow/dumb when it comes to this kinda stuff, I was getting totally overwhelmed mentally just trying to figure it all out.

The PSP-1000 does not have any special motherboards that prevent piracy, this is only PSP-2000s. Of course, it doesn't prevent piracy anymore, but that's a different story. I don't think it was a matter of piracy prevention as much as it was a hindrance to the version of the CFW that the user wanted to install. But there was something about the 1000 motherboards, methinks. (Still not home so I can't check. XD I did a Google search but didn't want to click on any of the results. ^^;)

To Sony, I imagine preventing CFW is the same as preventing piracy. Regardless, there really isn't anything you need to be wary about with PSP-1000s. They may have different motherboards, but none of them have any CFW-related effects, so it doesn't matter.

Ah, the motherboard only affected some downgrading stuff otherwise the 1000 is one hackity hack hackable device. D: Also, I think this page might be useful for ParanoiaDragon and beginners in general: tiny.cc/vk59gBut the most recent info on it is from last year. Still, it has explanations of a lot of stuff!

Well, I've been trying the Chickhen thing. As I understand it, with that, I don't need to make a Panora Battery, since I have a 1000. But, whenever I try to open up the tiff file in the Photo folder, it locks up my PSP, & then shuts it down, I've read 2 or 3 different guides on how to install it, & they all say the same basic thing, & I can't seem to get it to work.

It doesn't always work, sometimes you need to try >10 times before it activates. I must admit my expertise doesn't exactly lie with Pandora Batteries and all that stuff, since I have an evil PSP-2000, as they're called, but I don't think you actually need the Pandora Battery to upgrade your CFW on 1000s anymore. Take that with a grain of salt, though.

A friend o' mine who has one of those evil 2000's told me he figured a way to make ChickHEN work within 2-3 attempts.
After restoring all default settings and rebooting the PSP, go to system settings and turn UMD Auto Start, UMD Cache, USB Charge and USB Auto Connect all OFF.
Go to Theme Settings and choose the classic theme.
Now try the photo thing with the brightest screen setting and if it locks up and shuts down, try it again with the second brightest setting. It SHOULD work by then.

I downloaded the .tiff mod which makes it work almost every time, but that might be a good idea for anyone who isn't skilled enough or comfortable enough to use mods. Not that the .tiff mod requires skill.
Did he actually test this enough times to verify it, though? I've seen many "fixes" consisting of people doing random nonsense and then getting lucky and having it work, but things like that are just coincidences in most cases, and don't actually affect the success rate.

Not sure since he usually doesn't turn it off - just puts it on standby, but he seemed to make out as if it was a significant enough change. Arbitrary nonetheless.
