The first one is from 2003! Must be long gone by now! The Cleria Blade one feels like they were just getting their feet wet. A lot of the same instruments are used, except towards the end. That doesn't mean they're bad arrangements, though, there is a nice energy throughout. There are some great moments on it, such as Beat of Destruction, A Searing Struggle, Departure at Sunrise, even Feel Blue from Ys II is on there!
I'm listening to the King of Falcom one (2004) now, and it is a huge improvement over Cleria Blade. The Brandish opening track is awesome!

That was my "working too hard something's gotta give" purchase. I wanted to hear the Mega Man rock and techno albums for so long. I thought they would go out of print. The "We are Rock Men CD" is fairly new, too. I just found it while browsing, and didn't know about it.
The Sonic 1 & 2 is all I've listened to so far. It's perfect, just like I hoped. They even provided English translations for the liner notes, and Masato Nakamura's original demos are outstanding. It's a real treat to hear them.

I'm curious to the Mega Man Techno album.
I actually didn't like the demo tracks off of Sonic 1 & 2. I'm a huge fan of the Genesis sound chip to begin with so I'm accustomed to how the game music sounds.. but the demo tracks just sounded too MIDI

I don't have a lot of demo tracks, so I didn't know what to expect listening to the Sonic demos. I was expecting incomplete melodies, and done in perhaps a PSG style. I was surprised to see everything fleshed out as much as it was, and I was shocked at how much I liked Green Hill Zone. You're right about the midi sound, and the Sonic 2 demos seem a lot slower. It's cool hearing them in that state. I'm really glad they included them. It may take me a while to get to the other music, as I can't get enough of Sonic right now. All I had to listen to for Sonic 1 & 2 was this non-looping GYM stuff a friend made for me years ago. Went to the Comic Book store yesterday:  The new Batman and Hawk & Dove series are Ruling! |

The slower speed on some of the demos was a bit off putting but on the whole I was surprised at how much I enjoyed listening to them and how polished they were for supposed demo tracks. If only we could get the same for Sonic 3 & Knuckles!
